prusacontrol time estimates almost always too short? MK3

got my MK3 yesterday, have ran 7 prints so far, didn't really pay attention to the first 5, but the last 2 prints, estimate at 4:22 and 0:38 respectively, but ended up taking 6:30+ and 0:45, which is 49% and 18% longer than estimate. the forum is not allowing me to upload .stl, .prusa, or .gcode files or I would share them for review

anyone else experience this? any fixes?

Try a new (alpha) version of Slic3r here: https://github.com/prusa3d/Slic3r/releases/tag/version_1.39.1-alpha

It has implemented FW simulator, so the estimated time is very very accurate (<5% error) 😉

I have not used the slic3r yet, just the prusacontrol. on my latest print the estimate was 39 minutes, the actual time was 1:03. so actual print took 61% longer than estimate. file was https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2758405 . settings were Prusa PLA, 0.2mm, 20% infill, no support, no brim

next print

estimate 0:43
actual 1:19

83% extra time

OK, I try slice it in Slic3r alpha

There is a GCODE:

Try it again, and you will see 😉

I did switch to slicer prusa edition and found it much better. although it would not slice a lithophane I did. I was able to slice it in prusaControl and just reporting the result

estimate 3:31
actual 5:14

48% incorrect

how can you see the time estimate in slic3r?

You have to slice it in the latest alpha version from GitHub, then export GCODE and after that you will see these numbers. 😉

ah, great, thank you, that worked.
I did everything except for exporting before.

You are welcome. 😎

The new estimated time is very precise. I have tried it for 5 prints in total and max. error was 3% at very long prints (a few hours).

I too would like to see better estimates from Prusa Control software. I do use Slic3r & Cura, but sometimes I do use Prusa Control, and I wish it was a little more precise on the time estimates.

The PrusaControl uses the Slic3r as a backend, so it will benefit the new accurate Slic3r time estimate once we release an update of the PrusaControl.

Re: prusacontrol time estimates almost always too short? MK3

I still haven't seen a print where the time estimates were close to the real print time. For me errors have been always close to the 60-80%.

I'm currently printing a part where prusa control estimates 2h and slic3r (1.39.1 alpha) 2h45. It has passed 2h30 and it still is at 65%, printing in normal mode...

I guess it still needs a lot of work.
