Need help with Arduino

Hello, I am trying to get the Arduino to connect with the miniRambo. I tried the way instructed but it did not work for me. I do not want to change anything I just want to see it work. I installed Arduino and downloaded the firmware for 1.75mm RAMBo mini 1.3a. I installed the folder that unzipped and copied it into the hardware section. When I start Arduino it does not appear on the board list. I also tried to copy the other folder inside of the one that unzipped. There is a folder for mac and the other one is called FW_RAMBO_MINI_1_2_175_V2_2 that also did not work. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Need help with Arduino

Hi Peter

Sorry, not entirely sure what you want to achieve here. Arduino is a microcontroller board based on the ATMega chip which is similar to the processor in the RAMBo. The Arduino comes in various "flavours" and that would include the RAMBo board.

The Arduino programming interface (from Arduino.cc) can be used to upload software to the Arduino family. However, only certain "known" processor boards are included by default in the programming interface. The RAMBo is not included, however it is a fairly simply task to add it.

Firstly, you need a fairly recent Arduino programmed (I use V1.6.5), then you open File/Preferences and include the following URL in the "Additional Boards Manager URLs" box: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ultimachine/ArduinoAddons/master/package_ultimachine_index.json

You then close the preferences window and at this point, I would suggest it best to restart the programming interface. After doing so, open Tools/Board/Boards Manager.

Find "RepRap Arduino Mega BOard" in the list and install that. Close and again I would restart the programmer.

Now you will find the RAMBo listed under Tools/Board. Select that and assuming that you have also installed the RAMBo driver and the RAMBo is powered and plugged into a USB port on the computer, you are good to go. Or completely screw up the printer. Whatever you decide...

It really is better to stick with pre-built firmware and uploader, unless you are absolutely certain that you know what you are doing.

Peter

P.S. you will not see anything working by doing the above. If you want to see things happening, they you need something like OctoPrint. Or Pronterface.
