ColorPrint insert filament loop?

Hi all,

I tried my first ColorPrint today, a simple Game of Thrones coaster with a black coaster base and a red Targaryen logo on top. I used ColorPrint to insert a color change break at the appropriate height. The black base printed great but I faced 2 problems when it was time to change filaments:

  • The first filament didn't eject completely and I couldn't pull it out with any of the three options given during the switch procedure. Thus I had to hit 'Yes' as if the filament was changed, then immediately pause the print, then manually switch the filaments and continue. Has anyone else had a problem like this?
  • The bigger problem was even after this happened, right after the extruder seemed to be done with a section and hop to the next part, it would loop back to the insert filament, even though it already happened. It would never stop doing this, so I had to stop the print, and I ended up with just a black coaster.
  • I'm pretty new so I'm not sure what I did wrong. I think it may have something to do with 'Z hop' but I'm not sure what that even means yet, I'm just guessing. Also, I used the ColorPrint app included in the latest mac driver release, not the online version. Should I try the online version instead?

You cannot use the colour print app if you have sliced with Z-Lift.

You have to slice without Z Lift or you can slice with Z Lift and then insert the M600 code manually.

As Peter said, the Lift causes Color Print to think it is going through that Z value multiple times. If you are using Slic3r, you must use the ColorPrint type of the printer, not the with Z-Lift. That will fix the repeated filament swaps.

As far as the filament not unloading, that it typically a sign that your tensions screws are a bit too tight. They should be at about 14mm from the body with no filament in the extruder.

The Color Print site now has the following statement
"Coloprint now works correctly even if your print settings contain hop or zlif, you don’t to disable it anymore!".

Sounds like they fixed it. It seems to work OK for me without disabling anything.
