Vibration Isolation on another level

Been doing a little research on the subject and came to know that someone devised a model to be printed Lazzymonk,

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:91720

I took another 2 steps to real damp down things hope you guys like it, will test and note the difference.

I added felt pads underneath for furniture similar to the ones that came with the kit, removed the bottom felt pads and used Zeal tape that I use for RC helicopters and receivers which are subject to high frequency resonance similar to that of the printing machine if not more.

Zeal Tape can be purchased from here or equivalent on other sites, this one is thick and mushy, sticks on both sides, one on the printer side the other on the vibration blocks of Lazzymonk.

Here are the pics of the mods.

Installed just now...

Wooooow, the printer went from 100 db to nearly 0db, just did not expect that much of a difference compared to what it was before, am wondering if the major factor was the dampening of the plastic part or the zeal tape. Thats just impressive.

Also to note on you guys maybe considering the zeal tape, am using the 5mm green one as per the picture, there is another one which is the blue 3mm which I dont have at the moment, but ordered one, as the 5mm sits a little high.

Overall well worth the hack....

Here is the link for the 3mm blue one, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0188Q253M/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1YLD6DK9B7ZV6

😀

And I just realized I printed the wrong blocks, need the other one so it hugs the base feet of the printer.

How does it work ?

Is the printer not rattling and oscillation more as before ?

Yes sure, It is quieter but my moves more as before such a modification.

...Is the printer not rattling and oscillation more as before ?...
does not really matter, as long as there is no notable oscillation between printbed and extruder.
due to the stiff frame and it's dimensions, this should only be a problem at higher frequencies....
but the oscillation that happens now is mainly induced by the movement of the printbed and the extruder carriage and will only lead to a somehow increased "wobbeling" at recently low frequencies.

Yeah, I have been using something similar for a couple of years now.

Yes the printer rocks on occasion, but it's the whole printer and it does not do any harm.

Yes they do work very well and with the additional damping suggested by the OP the printer should be extremely quiet.

My solution :

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2338786

Thing is not weak enough that the printer "rocks" on the table, but is also not to hard to reduce vibration.

I've printed it with FlexiblePLA. Maybe other flexible material will work too.

Thomas thanks for the share, will print your model and see the difference in terms of wobble and the earlier model I printed, I think with your model plus the felt bottom pads and zeal tape will be just as silent and with less pendulum effect.

Just a note the zeal tape is like a condensed jelly, it really does take out the noise and vibration, but with the 5mm height you will notice the back and forth movement every so slightly and depending what print speed you have set default am on default printer speeds for the moment, if that gives you an idea.

Printing now your model and will test and report.

Update on the design, tested both with the same model to be printed on both designs, the lazzymonk design is more effective at isolating the vibration and small noises, it's so quiet with the felt pads below and the zeal tape between you can barely hear the printer.

FYI both design printed with PLA std from prusa, if I was to print it under a flexible plastic I would think it will be on mute mode.

Re: Vibration Isolation on another level

You should put 2 dampers under the frame. Why? Sometime the rods bends under his weight!! Not many but a little bit. I put 2 smaller dampers under it.
