Stops Working after a few layers

Hi. I just bought and assembled one of your kits, but am having problems printing.
I'm testing with a simple small part: the extruder fan support.
After a few layers of great printing, the extruder gets stuck and the ABS stops flowing.
I have noticed that the fan that is attached to the nozzle never turns on.
That might be part of the problem.
I tested the fan itself, and it works, but it never turns on.

How can I check that the board is working fine?

Please advice.

Re: Stops Working after a few layers

Hi, I had this same problem when I first assembled the kit as well.
When I first attached the fan to the board I attached it incorrectly, as I did not pay attention to which way the fan wire should be facing.

From what I've gathered, the extruder gets stuck because the plastic heats up and expands, clogging the extruder before it can be extruded.
The fan solves that problem.

Check that the fan is plugged into the correct location on the board. There should be two pairs of pins, one with a plastic wall and one without; the one without the plastic wall is where the fan needs to be plugged in.

Also make sure that the clip is facing the correct direction. The plastic clip should be clipped onto the plastic wall surrounding the pins you are not using.

If the fan still doesn't turn on after the main panel indicates the extruder has reached 50 degrees then you may have to get a new board.

Hope this helps

Nathanial is right, can you upload a picture of the board with the connectors plugged in?

I have been in contact with support, and they have confirmed semething is wrong with my board.
I just connected the fan to a 12 volt source and keep it on all the time, and it has been printing fine.

Re: Stops Working after a few layers

Hello,

I don't know if I have the same problem even though the subject is the same. Facts:

1) I finished building the kit in September. Not too bad even though I haven't had any previous experience in this field.
2) the extruder fan turns on/off accordingly when reaching the temperature threshold (50ºC).
3) the printer halted when printing the 3rd. layer of the test file initially in the SD card (prusa_1_75.gcode). The first time, I waited for 20 min. just to be sure that the device was really stuck.
4) I sliced another file suggested by a member of your company [1] and the device stopped when printing the first layer (see attached file).
5) I only tried printing files from the SD card.

In the attached picture, the bright object is one of the attempts described at 3 (I apologize, I'm not a good photographer). Behind it, the situation when printing the object described in the point 4 (I raised the extruder to take the picture).

Any hint? Thanks in advance.

robert
