Prusa i3 Mk2S hot end not heating: NEW e3d V6 and NEW Rambo Mini - what is the fix?

FEB 12 2018: Hot end stopped working, not hot enough to print nylon carbon fiber, I thought it might be a failed thermistor, short on time, I ordered a new e3d V6 assembled (all new wires) direct from e3d and a single thermistor cartridge from Matter Hackers.

MAR 1 2018: NEW e3d V6 arrived, installed it, hot end gave a reading of 184 C but was cold to the touch; swapping thermistor wires in Rambo Mini showed that bed was OK, if new hot end then problem was in Rambo Mini??? Short on time, I ordered new Rambo Mini.

MAR 7 2018: swapped to NEW Rambo Mini, still got Self test failure: "Heater/thermistor" ; also tried connecting to old e3d V6 hot end with NEW thermistor cartridge; got same self test failure and error message

Daniel at e3d has shipped out via FEDEX a new e3d V6 hot end. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all wires. I hope the new V6 is the solution but if not, what are other possibilities?

well, you definitely got ahead of yourself there. all you had to do was test the resistance of the thermistor and check the heater resistance and check for power and the power supply is supplying the correct voltage too. a multimeter would work so you know what you're to replace. you should go buy one, now if you don't have one.

without your exact process it's impossible to help. For example, the thermistor is plugged into another wire that goes to the board, did you change THAT wire too? it would be impossible to change all that and have it still not work (firmware aside). if the bed heats and the machine has power then there is something you didn't check not related to any of it, like that wire. course only a multimeter will help troubleshoot. or just replace the whole machine until it works. hehe.
