MAXTEMP error

Hi, I just bought and assembled Prusa i3 printer. First print started fine, but after few layers and about 10 minutes, it stopped with LCD showing Err: MAXTEMP. Another problem is consistency of print. It seems that layers arent stuck together, which would probably suggest that temperature is too low. Both problems indicate oposite solutions. Preheat goes to the preset temperature, fans are working properly and I have no idea what could be the real cause.

Re: MAXTEMP error

MAXTEMP error can happen when termistor wires are shorted out. Please check if the insulation isn't damaged and the wires touching at some point during the print.

Layers not sticking together might be also a calibration issue. Is the distance on any side between the bed and the nozzle is too big the layers won't stick.
Make sure you calibrate the printer while the nozzle and the bed are at the target temperature. The distances differ slightly when it's cold or hot.

What temperatures are on the display during the print and at the point when it fails or shortly before that?

Re: MAXTEMP error

Sorry for delay. When you get the Maxtemp, it turns off the heaters and temperature goes down, decreasing the bonding between the layers.

Try to heat up the printer, then by hand move the extruder head from one side of X axis to another an watch rapid jumps in the extruder temperatures.

Re: MAXTEMP error

Now I'm sorry for the delay. I was counting on email notification, but it never came and I almost lost the hope 🙂
I checked insulation as suggested and it looks fine to me. I also did the test with moving extruder head and watched for temperature jumps - nothing like this ever happened.
I prepared a video showing almost the entire print process . At a certain point temperature starts raising with no evident reason and after reaching 258 degrees error occurs.

Re: MAXTEMP error

I can see it on the video, you are running g-code for 3mm version 😉 1.75mm version max temperature is 260, but 3mm version vas printing 285 💡

Re: MAXTEMP error

Thanks for the good news :). I just used PRUSA.gcode which came with printer on SD card. Could you provide a test file applicable to 1.75 version?

Re: MAXTEMP error

Never mind :). I found some STL on the web, converted it to gcode using "Prusa3D Slic3r 1.75mm" and printed with Pronterface. All the problems are gone. I suspected it must be easy but never imagined that it will be that simple.
Thank you very much for your suport and for the great product.

Re: MAXTEMP error

Yeah, I wanted to make an option in the installer to install Slic3r only for version you have, but then I realised many customers have both version.
You are not the first who had this, fortunately, we have the over temperature protection in the firmware.
