LCD questions

So I zapped the screen 1 too many times, no big deal. I used a temporary Reprap Discount XXL screen while I ordered two Reprap Discount screens (I have another printer that could use a screen, and screens that looked identical to the Prusa screen were $8 USD a piece)

Screens show up and, well, don't work. There are two places on the PCB where you can mount the Contrast pot, and these have a bigger one, in the location that interferes with the bracket. No big deal.

Go to plug the cables in and get no screen and a beeep from the speaker. Knowing these things are pretty fool-proof, I swap cables...again, no screen.

Is there something special-order about the Prusa screens?

Re: LCD questions

I have one the same as your's. Works fine.
It's connected with the cables that came with the display, exp1 to p1 and exp2 to p2. The cables connect with the red stripe to the pin 1 side at the Rambo end however, the opposite way to that shown in the manual.
Usual disclaimer, haven't heard of anyone blowing anything up by plugging these in the wrong way, and this was the last combination I tried, but you're millage may vary 😉

Re: LCD questions

That would make sense...I've used these screens long enough to know they were designed in a sane fashion: There's no plug orientation that will hurt them...but earlier designs had the cable orientation messed up. I didn't start swapping the cables at the RAMBO side, and with them keyed the way they are, I might not have tried an orientation that worked.

Ah well, I'm printing a case for the XXL screen

Re: LCD questions

Interesting...I finished my build last night and tonight was going to do a final check on the electronics and power up, but I also noticed the red stripe on the LCD cables did not match up with pin 1 on the PCB layout I have...how can you reverse them, as you say they are keyed??

I have not removed them from the LCD so I guess these could also be fitted reversed to match??

Not very good if the assembly instructions are wrong!

Re: LCD questions

Hi Chris, you should be OK with the Prusa supplied parts with the plugs as shown in the manual..
Only needed to reverse the plugs when using a replacement generic part.
Good luck with the power on.

Like the look of that screen Micheal...
