Filament too thin during first setup
I just built the kit and am running through calibration. So far the self test passes, so does the calibrate xyz, I've also done the calbrate z and mesh bed leveler.
Now I am on the First Layer Step. When I print, the filament printed is only 0.21mm thick. It looks too thin, and reading up, I think it should be more like 0.4 to 1.0mm.
Is this a problem that I think it is? How can I fix it? I'm using the filament that came with the kit if that matters.

get your first layer alignment right. look into this thread and read at least the first 6 sites of the thread, so that you get the point of finding the optimum.

Thanks Jeff. I will definitely run this program but can you clarify something for me. I thought 0.21mm was too thin for the extruded filament but I have no experience. But then I read
the thickness of the sheet begins at about 0.27mm when the nozzle is to high. the thickness then drops down to 0.20mm when you've found the right z adjustment value. then it rises again to approx. 0.23mm when the nozzle is too low (then the surface gets somehow dim and rough).
so the challenge is to find the optimum.
Which you wrote... so my filament is not too thin then? or do I misunderstand?

The filament on a first single layer should be 0.2mm thick (if that is what you told the slicer to do). The calibration files use 0.2mm. So yes, your first layer is not too thin. It is just about right.

Hey Thanks everyone. I found my bed was not seated fully so x and y were not quiet square. Fixing that and running through the calibration with your gcode now and its way better.

the layer thickness of the first layer should be 0.2mm. the width of a single strain should be a little bit more than 0.4mm (usually about 0.44 - 0.48mm, depending to the extrusion width the gcode is sliced with).
so each strain of filament that you squish onto the pei sheet is in its cross section some kind of rectangular (with rounded edges), with 0.20mm height and 0.44mm width.
