Extruder Filament Pulley Question

I have been troubleshooting why my printer will just stop printing in mid print. I may have found the reason why. So wanted to run this by this forum to see if I could be right.

Last night the print stopped again in mid print and I had to push the filament back down into the Extruder and I was able to. Once I did that it started to extrude filament once again. I noticed the little screw (in the pulley) that tightens on the end of the Extruder motor is sticking out a ways and it appears that it is preventing the pulley from moving around on occasion.

1. Does the pulley screw need to be flush with the pulley to allow full movement?
2. If this pulley is not working correctly would it prevent the filament from being fed into the hot end?

If I wanted to replace this pulley on the Extruder motor where would I get that part from? I noticed http://www.e3d-online.com is referred to a lot on this board to get parts but what part would I buy on that page. I see quite a few pulleys but none that look like the one on the Extruder motor.

This is just my working theory. I have been able to print just fine but it seems my prints will just randomly stop and end up printing in mid air. Before I can really print something that takes hours I wanted to fix this issue so I don't waste a bunch of filament.

Thanks in advanced for any recommendations or comments.

Re: Extruder Filament Pulley Question

I may have answered my one questions about the pulley, it doesn't appear to be called a pulley. I guess it is called a Extruder Drive Gear. Does a MK8 Extruder Drive gear 5mm bore for 1.75mm Filament 3d printer sound right?

Re: Extruder Filament Pulley Question

are you talking about this set screw?

If so than I had the same issue when I first assembled the printer. My set screw protruded enough to hit the extruder housing caused the extruder motor to stop and click, or grind away at the filament. I took the set screw out and rub the bottom on some sand paper to shorten its length just enough to allow the gear to rotate freely.
