Change nozzle

So, i bought this https://e3d-online.com/nozzle-pro-pack-2 .

Thought i should test out different size of the nozzle and also play around a bit with abrasive materials.

Having issues getting the original nozzle off. Not that i cant turn it, haven't got that far yet. Its more how to get a secure grip on heater block with a wrench or or block key. Its so many cables in the way really.

Is it that i have to dismount the hotend completely from the printer in order to swap nozzle?

Re: Change nozzle

When I have changed the nozzle, I have removed the front fan completely (but not unplugged), removed the front two screws on the extruder fan on the side, then removed the front fan support. That exposes the front of the heat block. I then heat the nozzle (I set the temp to 270). Smart move is to then turn off and unplug the machine. Then I use the provided wrench (I believe the 17mm end) to hold the heat block whilst using a 7mm socket to unscrew the nozzle. Then screw in the new nozzle and put it all back together. Just be careful not to pinch the wires on the heat block with the wrench.

Re: Change nozzle

Exactly what i tried but i felt that the grip of the wrench for the heat block wasnt good so i didnt apply so much force on the nozzle.
Ill do a second try this weekend, maybe getting a block key that fits the heat block more exactly.

Thanks for the run through now i at least that this is doable.

Re: Change nozzle

I purchased the same kit and I've swapped nozzles 4 times so far.

The first time I took the original nozzle off I used the supplied wrench and I agree that it didn't hold the heat block very well. For the other changes I've used a 7mm socket on the nozzle and an adjustable crescent wrench on the heat block. There isn't a lot of room but I am able to hold the block from the front and slight below. It probably took me the better part of an hour the first time to change the nozzle, the most recent swap took about 20 minutes.

After tightening the new nozzle I run the z-calibration then print a 75X75 flat calibration square to adjust the live Z. Your live Z will change every time you do a nozzle change.

Good luck!

Re: Change nozzle

Time flies.

Finally got to this, got a 16mm block key to hold the heat block and tried to use the 7mm wrench that came in the nozzle kit. Did not work.
There is so little room there due to the cables.

Bought a 7mm socket for the nozzle, boom, so easy. It came loose very easy with small "thuck" sound.
So no its running with a 0.40 hardend steel nozzle.

Next out will be a 0.6 and some wood filament.

Thanks for your inputs.
