Ambient temperature important?
Hello to all,
Ok, I should receive my first printer soon. Meanwhile I'm searching infos to start with all inflrmations needed for my slices!
I would leave the printer in a cold room, should be at 10°C. Does the ambient temperature alter the final result? It's too cold?

This is dependent on what material you print with. For many materials it is very important.

The printer won't work below 15 degrees.
This is a safety feature in case there is an issue with the thermistors and is built into firmware (15 degrees for extruder and 5 degrees for bed).
You will have to warm the extruder with a hairdrier (or similar) otherwise you will get an error mossage on pre-heat.
Colder working temps are fine for PLA, but you will have issues with ABS unless you enclose the printer.

Colder working temps are fine for PLA, but you will have issues with ABS unless you enclose the printer.

What are we talking here? My printer is in my finished basement with heated rooms and carpet, etc... But, there is about a ten degree difference as opposed to the 68 degrees upstairs. Will this ABS? PLA prints fine as is.

ABS has to cool slowly otherwise warping/separation will occur. Also ABS does not like drafts.

68degC is really hot, you sure you did not build on a hot spot? 😉

@Joan Its about time we all talk in Celcius or degrees centigrade. For a failure see Joels The 3D Printing Nerds failures in his cold garage late at night. With unboxings and first prints. Its so cold he does not follow the manufacturers unboxing instructions and could have damaged the printer.

Since this post I reprinted my entire MK2 kit (basically) over the weekend. I let it run night and day and there was not an issue. Only reason I would consider an enclosure is for the benefit of smell reduction. Honestly though, the ABS was not as bad as some say?! But I am used to working with plastics.

We run a number of printers in one printer room. I have two Prusa MKII, we found out a couple of weeks ago, when someone did not turn the heat on the one of the printers shut down when the Temp reached 66F. The other one keep working. We normally keep the room between 72 and 78F.
