Varying Nozzle Temp for Woodfill Prints
I'm printing with Hatchbox Woodfill PLA ( https://www.amazon.com/HATCHBOX-WOOD-1KG1-75-Filament-Dimensional-Accuracy/dp/B01ND1M7T6 ) on an Original Prusa i3 Mk2. I read that a way to get a more realistic wood finish is to vary the temperature during a print. Higher temp burns the wood fibers, darkening the material, lower temp results in lighter color.
What's a good way to script a temperature gradient into the horizontal and vertical shells so I don't have to tweak the temp manually during a print?
I believe this is my first post, so thanks in advance for the help!
Re: Varying Nozzle Temp for Woodfill Prints
Unfortunately this technique does not work with the Hatchbox Woodfill filament. I have tried and there is no difference in the color when the temperature is changed.
Re: Varying Nozzle Temp for Woodfill Prints
Good to know! Have you tried other wood filaments?
Regarding my other question, is there a standard way to procedurally script settings like nozzle temperature?
Re: Varying Nozzle Temp for Woodfill Prints
I haven't tried any others but I know there are some available that do what you are looking for. Maybe someone else can help here.
As for scripting temp changes, with Simplify3D you can set temperatures on a layer-by-layer basis if you want. Cura has a feature that if you are using a wood filament it can vary the temps to make it look wood grain.
Re: Varying Nozzle Temp for Woodfill Prints
Hi, I print with this wood filament on another printer but was wondering what are your settings for the MK2? I have held off trying it so far until I find some good settings to start with!
Re: Varying Nozzle Temp for Woodfill Prints
I was looking for something to change the speed during a given layer of woodfil type filament. I've tried a number of others (eSun, Robo, MG Chemicals, SolutionTech), most seem to be relatively the same, no change in temp, but you can generate variation with SPEED. So what I would like, if someone has it, or it can be modified relatively easy is a script that will allow me to vary the speed along the Z-axis, a sine-like approximation for the speed vs z-axis would be useful. If someone has it, or knows how to do it, please post.
Re: Varying Nozzle Temp for Woodfill Prints
For future Googlers, here is a site that will run a python script to change temps (for wood "grain"): https://www.tecrd.com/tools/stl_wood/ I found it from this Thingiverse page: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2511974 .
I've only tried it with Hatchbox, and I had no luck.
