Re: Simplify3D settings

I couldn't remember if I had seen it! I haven't had time to try my .25 nozzle so will be interested to hear results!

Re: Simplify3D settings

I tried to import 0.25 nozzle settings but not work, i've to print small part and at the moment i'mable to print only with 0.1 con 0.25 nozzle, not less and not with abs.
Who can help me with this kind of configuration?
Thanks

Re: Simplify3D settings

I just recently started using S3D with a 0.25 nozzle (only PLA currently though). One thing in particular I ran into issues with was the 'coasting distance' setting. It was set far too high for a 0.25 mm nozzle and caused quite severe under extrusion. Trying to get to grips with my under extrusion issues I also turned off auto layer width and went with a fixed 0.25 mm layer width. I suspect the main issue was the coasting distance though so I will look at turning auto layer width back on.

Re: Simplify3D settings

Hey guys,
I have a (hopefully) simple question.
I have been with 3D printing for now over a year and think I meanwhile do have at least some experience and knowledge.
I got my I3 MK2S just a few days ago and am quite happy with it and the decent prints.
The in this thread provided FFF profile for S3D works pretty well for me.
With one setting both calibration cube comes out with decent closed top layers and Marvins or Benchys without
any overextrusion which never worked for me with my old CTC ....

The provided FFF profile comes with an extrusion multiplier of "1" for both PLA and ABS
whereas in my experience it is said that for PLA it needs to be something around "0,9".
Although I do have some spools PLA from EU-Makers of which some colours need a slightly incereased multiplier
I in general have severe underextrusion with a multiplier around "0,9"

Is this something to be concerned about or is an multiplier around"1" for PLA pretty normal
for this printer and hotend setup? Or am I missing something?

Thank you all for your help in advance!

when your printer is set up correctly (search for -> extruder calibration), you should work with a multiplier of 1.00 for pla as well as for abs.

if you've encountered previously that there are differences at other printer models, it's very likely that the filament transport mechanism at the extruder is better or worse with different materials.
at the prusa i3 mk2(s) there shouldn't be a notable difference when the extruder springs provide the correct tension and the brass pulley isn't worn out.

you only need to slightly alter this value at your slicer in special cases, like models with steep overhangs, or if you print "print-at-once" models with gears or hinges.

Thank you very much for this information which suits me pretty well
and even explains some issues I previously had!

Re: Simplify3D settings

Here is is my latest ABS printer profile based on my earlier PLA profile, this is fine tuned for printing ABS, I used Skirt / Brim instead of Raft, since raft causes part shrinkage at the base of the part and the top of the raft, (Adhesion point)

I did not use any glue or any type of adhesion additive to the PEI sheet on the printer.

I also suggest running the printer in an enclosure to stop drafts and various temp drops in the room.

Enclosure really helps with ABS as it helps with the cooling process to be gradual as opposed to a shock temp change when printing is over.

Here are picks of the print with some parts I designed for my CNC mill, all printed at 40mm/s I may test later faster printing speeds.

Parts designed at 20mm in Fusion 360 final printed part off the bed comes to 19.99mm sometimes goes to 19.97mm but nothing more.

I can fine tune this on the Software with % scaling if I really need it, but happy with the Profile.

Re: Simplify3D settings

Just updated my PLA profile again can get a faster first layer now with enclosure so first layer print speed tweaked from 50% to 70% whilst fine tunning the other parameters. 😀

Re: Simplify3D settings

Interestingly enough, the key parameters that affected the print quality from the two plastics ABS and PLA without taking into consideration the temps settings as defined by the manufacturers of the plastic type, are the following:

Extrusion Multiplier / Outline Overlap / First layer Height / Print speed all factor into the first layer by keeping the Live Z adjust untouched on the Printer.

By just adjusting those values you will be very close to the ball park figure, I find that though some manufacturers state filament thickness to be 1.75mm the consistency is really not that accurate they fluctuate from 1.73mm to 1.75mm always less never more so far. So I set Mine on 1.74 and that keeps things nice and clean.

Re: Simplify3D settings

Just a note on the above point, seems like when switching out different plastics 9 times out of 10 its the multiplier factor that needs to be changed then the live z adjust setting, as one plastic behaves differently then the other which gives you the impression as if the z height level needs to be adjusted when really its just the extrusion multiplier..

Just my observation.

Re: Simplify3D settings

Still following the same principles above, here is the result of a test print as base for all my settings.

Material is NylonX 1.75mm I changed out the nozzle from brass 0.4 to a hardened metal black nozzle 0.5 to provide better layer binding.

Print profile attached.

Square is one layer at the bottom and one layer ontop.

Re: Simplify3D settings

Can someone point me in the right direction, i3MK2S, need some NinjaFlex settings please ! Print failed with bad layer adhesion, so far tried the following:
- speed 10 mm/s
- temp 240/50
- no retraction

Re: Simplify3D settings

Hello. You did a great work with all the settings. One question. I just ordered a Anet A8 fom gearbest. I know, thats the A8 is a clone of the Prusa i3.
Are these settings also fine for the A8?

Thank you for your help!

Re: Simplify3D settings

Best bet is to try them on the A8 when you get it

I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility. Location Halifax UK

Just wondering...did anyone tried to use S3D with new MK3 and it's new settings?

Josef posted his here: https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/-f30/simplify3d-settings-for-mk3-t12950.html
I'm using them as a base and tweaking for my liking.
