Prints have Zits (bumps, marks, blobs?)

Hello everyone,

Many of my prints have little zits or bumps on the size of them in between layers.

You can see very clearly in the pictures attached, can these be removed?

I've been looking around and having a hard time, I've read in many places it might be my retractions settings.

My retraction using my Simplify3D settings are :

Distance: 0.8mm
Extra Restart: 0mm
Speed: 35mm/s
Coasting: 0.2mm
Wiping: 2mm

Also I'm printed at PLA 210 degrees,

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Re: Prints have Zits (bumps, marks, blobs?)

you've set your s3d settings at [layer] -> [start points] either to random or fastest.
choose a start point directly opposite to the nose of the benchy. usually (when the benchy looks at you) to x= 125, y=0.
so all perimeters should start from the same direction.
furthermore a decent retraction might be useful.

have a look at philipp.m's settings he once posted at the simplify-3d thread:

ps. 35mm/s for retraction is quite fast. I would try 25mm/s instead.

Thanks for the advice Jeff!

I'll make sure to look at those settings and try and bring down my retraction speed.

Kenneth, were you able to make any progress? Would be interested in your findings. I need to dial this in, too and hoped to benefit from you 🙂

The photos look like what you would get (if you were using Slic3r) by printing 'External perimeters first' with 'Random' seam position.

in Slicer, the fix would be to choose some other seam position option, and/or not print external perimeters first.

It think the protruding bits are the ooze that extrudes while the hotend moves to start a new external perimeter somewhere far, far away.

I'm a little perplexed, but maybe I'm the wrong with bad info. That seems like what I understand to be a unit that needs e-step calibration. My prints are nearly flawless, but these little things show up. It showed up a lot printing the Pangolin from thingiverse, and I think I understand why. I need to do it today, and will post my results.
