Outer perimeter outline not centered around object

I downloaded an stl from thingiverse ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1563995 ) and in slicer moved the object towards the y axis but when I print out stage_3.gcode the initial outer perimeter is in the the original place so it overlaps with the new placement of the object that is lower. How could this happen?

Slic3r? Which version?

Slic3r (along with many other slicers) has some peculiar issues. Try with a different slicer.

Slic3r 1.30.0-prusa3d-release_candidate_1_3
This never did that yesterday, is it possible I mistakenly changed a print setting to cause this?

I downloaded Cura 15.04.6 and loaded Original_Prusa_i3_MK2_0_15_PLA_NORMAL.ini from http://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk2-f23/cura-print-settings-t999.html and will try from there as well.

In Slic3r the main option I use is Print settings:
0.05 DETAIL
0.10 DETAIL
0.20 NORMAL
0.35 FAST

Where can I select this in Cura?

Re: Outer perimeter outline not centered around object

In Cura, you simply choose File/Open Profile. The profile you have is "Normal" - that is 0.2mm layer height.

As far as I am aware, there are no slicer settings which could cause what you describe. I don't know is Slic3r has a manual option to reslice.

The layer height default after loading the mk2 profile was .15 for some reason. Not sure if I should stick with .15 or change it to .2. I guess I'll try and see, thanks.

Re: Outer perimeter outline not centered around object

Was that Layer Height or First Layer Height?

I noticed that the Slic3r settings had First Layer Height set to 0.15mm, which strikes me as a tad strange when the minimum printable first layer height is 0.2mm.

With KISS, I use a first layer height of 0.2mm and extrude for a layer of 0.25mm to ensure good adhesion.

In Cura the Layer height is 0.15mm and the initial layer thickness is 0.15mm

Why is the minimum printable first layer height 0.2mm?

By extrude you mean the layer height other than the initial layer height? Why not just use 0.20mm? How is 0.25mm giving better adhesion than 0.20?

Re: Outer perimeter outline not centered around object

All very good questions...

The minimum nozzle height is set within firmware on the Mk2 at 0.2mm (the Mk1 was 0.23mm). You will notice this following an Auto-Home or Z Calibration. The LCD will display 0.2mm:

#define X_MAX_POS 255
#define X_MIN_POS 0
#define Y_MAX_POS 210
#define Y_MIN_POS -4
#define Z_MAX_POS 210
#define Z_MIN_POS 0.2

Note also that Z_MAX is set to 210 to allow the Z axis to be raised to this from any nozzle Z position in order to level it against the stops at the top of the printer.

This setting help to prevent nozzle crashes and to damage to the heat break.

KISS does not allow you to set a first layer height, but it does have 2 parameters that I use to over-extrude the first layer:

Bed Roughness - This parameter I have set to 0.05mm. The first layer is raised by this value
Z Offset - I have this set to -0.05mm. All Z heights are adjusted by this value.

The result of this is that for the first layer, the filament is extruded for 0.25mm, but with the nozzle at 0.2mm. This takes up any roughness of the bed and squishes the plastic into the bed to ensure a good stick.

When printing layer heights less than 0.2mm, I adjust the two settings to ensure I print the first layer at 0.2mm.

Regarding Cura, you will see that the settings are quite simple and straight forward. I find it easier to use only one profile and adjust the settings as required.

There's a lot to experiment with I see, thanks for the explanation. My latest finding is that changing 1st layer temp to 65 with everything else at 60 helps prints stick to bed much more.

Hi Prusayo,

when you use Slic3r and go to the preview tab (the lower tab), do you see the perimeter outline at the right position ? This should be a preview of the gcode generated.

I'm like Jon Snow, I know nothing.
