Outer ABS-T filament does not stick to the print, why?

Hello there,

anyone an idea why this happens? My heat bed is 100°C and the nozzle 250°C.
I'm printing with ABS-T.

Kind regards

Holy mother of printing. Did anyone successfully print in ABS on this printer? I just can't get it right. Warping and the issues from above. I guess I did not have one good print like I have them in PLA.

Kind regards

I did many times.
Key of success:
- heatbed as hot as possible (I print at 110°C)
- hotend as cool as possible (for me, usually 230°C works well, depends on ABS type)
- absolutely clean and degreased heatbed surface (IPA or acetone for cleaning)
- nozzle a bit lower than for PLA (first layer needs to be a bit more squished)

Well I wanted to try your suggestions but after 35 minutes of waiting for the heatbed to get to 110°C I just gave up. What a pain... is the prusa i3 even able to heat up to 110°C?

Is it i3 or i3 MK2?

This is i3. Over the weekend I tried everything...

Calibrating over and over again, I was trying temperatures higher and lower. I cleaned the heat bed each time.
The ABS prints are always bad. Warping, stringy prints, ABS not sticking to the glass despite all ABS juice, glue and 3DLac spray. Nothing works...

Then I retried PLA and on the first try... perfect print.

I have no idea how you guys do it. But I slowly think that it is a lie. i3 can't print ABS.

But I slowly think that it is a lie. i3 can't print ABS.

Question: So what printer do you think the ABS plastic printed parts were printed on?

Answer: Before the Mk2 became available, Josef was printing the ABS parts on a Mk1. Seems that is is not a lie and that it certainly is possible.

In fact, the only ABS parts I have printed have been on the Mk1 with great success.

I believe Josef keeps his printers in a warm room....

I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility. Location Halifax UK

For ABS it is all about temps! Bed needs to be up to temp and stable. Check extrusion multiplier, on my other printers I am set higher than PLA.
Very clean bed.
Very level bed.
ABS does not need a huge amount of squish.
