Issue printing a star-shaped part

Hi,

I'm trying to print a "magic" wand for my daughter who's going to get dressed as a pixie for carnival this Saturday and it's diving me crazy.

The part prints fine up to a certain point, but then fails completely. My first try, I wasn't next to the printer and couldn't hear it. It finished the part like that:

Based on some recommendation I saw about warped prints, I checked my belts which seem fine (they twang, and I can't move the axis after having moved it through the menu). and checked that I don't have anything that could block one of the axis.

I also upgraded to the latest firmware and re-did all the calibrations.

After all that, I tried to run the print again, simplifying the part a little (removed some mounting holes that I had created), at 0.2 (was trying at 0.15 initially) and printing only 1 part at a time.

It failed at the exact same height. I wasn't looking at the printer, but heard a huge bang followed by a few other bangs, as if something was hit. I went to check the printer and the X and Y axis had shifted and it was printing spaghettis...

After stopping the print, I examined the partially printed part and what I can see is a hit point.

I think it's the PINDA that hit the print...

On the other side of the print I see that the extremity is slightly warped and I'm wondering if on the side where it hit it didn't warp a little too much, enough for the PINDA to hit...

I have no idea how I should go on fixing that. I guess that "closing" the part could maybe do it, but it would make the part use much more filament.

Re: Issue printing a star-shaped part

There appears to be very little surface area in contact with the print bed,
could it be, that the part has warped and been struck by the extruder. and mayhem follows...

could you add a wide brim around the part, to increase adhesion and prevent warping?
the brim should be able to be cracked off the model once the model is complete and removed from the print bed.

Thanks! That was indeed the issue. I changed the way I printed the part, printed it "closed" instead of empty and it worked.
