Vertical Ellipse Banding?

Hi guys, I just got my mk3 in a few days ago, and have gotten a couple of prints off of it, but I am having a couple of consistent issues with it.

First, I am having this weird vertical ghosting/banding going on in my models on all vertical curved surfaces. Secondly, I have some kind extrusion or movement issue maybe? If you look closely at the front of the little boat, there are gaps on that small section sticking out. I'm aware that the image of the horse has many other issues going on with it, mostly user error on my part. I'm most concerned about these banding and skipping issues.

I was printing Prusa PLA at 215C, 60C bed, 60mm/s, 30mm/s for top/bottom layers, at .2mm layer heights. All pretty standard settings from what I understand. Slicing was done in the newest version of Cura, seeing as how I can't find any real customization options in Prusa Control, and Slic3r PE gave me a Marvin that looked like it was underextruding by a good 30%.

Thanks in advance for any help

Re: Vertical Ellipse Banding?

Do the lines coincide with the infill pattern? If so increasing the number of perimeters (how many did you set here?) and/or adjusting the overlap between infill and perimeters might help. I'm not familiar with Cura so the overlap might have a different name.

Also it might be a good idea to use Slic3r to begin with because it's more of a known entity and it's well documented what kind of results you can expect from the MK3 - Slic3r pairing. Once you get proper results you know the hardware works and then swith to Cura and tweak that if you prefer.

Re: Vertical Ellipse Banding?

You know what, I believe that they do coincide with the infill pattern. I had it set for 3 perimeters. I did find specific settings related to overlaps for the perimeters in Cura, so I will try adjusting that.

In the mean time, I will switch back over to Slic3r. I have limited prior experience from a couple of years ago, and have just begun again with 3D printing just recently, so slicer choice isn't a major issue for me at this point seeing as I'm not super familiar with any of them yet.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll still do a couple of prints from both slicers just to see if it corrects the issue for any who may want to use Cura. I know people have knocked it partially due to lack of customization, but if you go into preferences and look there it has just insane amounts of customization choices now.

Re: Vertical Ellipse Banding?

It was mirroring the infill exactly. I was "setting" the perimeters by just telling it the wall thickness in multiples of the extruder width. For some reason it did not like that, but in looking at the slice layer by layer, I could see that it was still only laying down one outer perimeter. I found the setting to set the specific number of outer walls in Preferences > Configure Cure > Settings > Shell > then I checked the option for 'Wall Thickness' and 'Wall Line Count'. It then allows you to configure the number of walls by number. I ran the preview and it looks like it is going to fix my problem. I currently have a boat printing from Slic3rPE right now, but I'll run another Cura version tonight after this one to verify that this will solve this issue in Cura.

Re: Vertical Ellipse Banding?

Some people might give me trouble about it being a different color and brand, but that isn't going to affect the issue posted about here at all, so 😛

Below, you can see the results of me changing up my Cura settings and giving it another go. The banding is gone (caused by the infill as stated before). Instead of trying to control the number of perimeters by adjusting wall width (apparently doesn't affect it the way I thought it would), I went into the Preferences tab, and in the Settings section found a setting for Number of Walls. I enabled it, set it to 3 and hit go.
