Success! almost there

Replaced the extruder after the big print fail and so I have a backup. Tightened my Y axis belt which is now at 249, X at 255. My prints are so much better. Almost. But I'm happy:) the filament sensor died so I am getting a replacement on that.

Pictures: Purple is new, prusa silver is old. Poor color choice I know, I'm going back to black or silver today to finish my test prints.

The ONLY issue I have is the bottom of the benchy, but I think that's just me needing to adjust the Z more but if it's something else just let me know.

My marvins also all failed at the same point, and a coworker who has printed dozens of them had one fail at the same point, so I'm guessing it's just a tricky spot?
Otherwise I'm on my way to printing successfully!

your z level is a touch high
your silver benchy seems a bit under extruded and the hold box seems to be having gaps where the perimiters are not touching

i have no idea what happened to poor old Marvin, he seems to have suffered a lobotomy!

I have a couple of benchy's i printed recently. the orange filament is the end of an old roll of Chinese PLA which has been open for about two years... off the roll it's a bit stiff and very tightly curled because the centre of the reel is quite small. moisture doesn't seem to have bothered it much...
the white, is difficult to photograph..

the Bows, seem pretty good , the orange is slightly translucent and shows a slight colour change around the port holes

the deck areas are even where yours seem to have slight gaps between the individual threads
my hold surround is more solid, your silver one seems to have a bit of rounding on the left hand corner

my Live Z is a touch high...

i used the generic PLA setting on the 1.39.1 version of Prusa Slic3r...
firmware 3.1.3 -245 (a final version of 3.1.3 was announced today) 19/3/2018

and I sliced at 0.15mm I did face Benchy at 45 degrees on the build platform... so it pointed diagonally rather that side to side... because sometimes the curves on the back side suffer inadequate cooling. I wonder if your extrusion widths are incorrect...

if you don't have the latest drivers and firmware, that is probably best updated first.

Thank you for sharing your pictures!! That's perfect reference for a good benchy. I'll be adjusting my live z tonight and try another benchy, maybe even a marvin! Who knows haha. I'll reprint everything in the silver so it's easier to see and post updates.

I just printed mine direct from the SD card provided by prusa, so if I have any other issues I'll re-slice it in Simplify3D. I like that your rotated the benchy - that's a good idea and I might try that.

The firmware I just updated to the most recent release; 3.1.3. 🙂

The purple filament I used is Ziro brand. It's slightly translucent but so far is the perfect light shade of purple I've found.

You look like your extrusion multiplier on the orange is a touch high.
Also a touch over temp, a there is slight blobbing starting around your port holes too.

Here's mine from last night with 3.2 Alpha (custom built and jltx cooling)

That's a nice print, Sean. I noticed a few spots on the bottom that look 'chipped' - is this a heating/cooling issue that's generally normal? Otherwise that bottom portion is flawless (unlike mine). Thank you for sharing!

Sean, that kinda looks like PETG (so shiny). If it is, it's a lot easier to get a good benchy print on PETG.

11$ 1 kg spool of PLA. 🙂
It's not very good filament. I just got shipping for my full color buy. (Basically picked up a spool of every color almost) 13 spools, 43lbs according to FedEx... Cheaper than 3kg of the polyalchemy I want.

I'm not sure what did that. Likely a small glob on the nozzle that was on the first layer and broke it off on what looked like layer 3. Cheap filaments ooze REALLY bad. 🙄

I did it! Almost haha. Dialed in the z some more and what a difference!! New on the left, old on the right. My boyfriend got a bit excited and forgot the sheet bends, so he ripped it up and slightly messed up the side near the xyz. I might need to fine tune it a bit more since the xyz didn't come out perfect, but it's better!

Now I'm printing a new fan part for the extruder in PETG. I think I love this filament. It's just Inland brand black.

I'm so excited things are coming out better

My boyfriend got a bit excited and forgot the sheet bends, so he ripped it up and slightly messed up the side near the xyz. I might need to fine tune it a bit more since the xyz didn't come out perfect, but it's better!

Now I'm printing a new fan part for the extruder in PETG. I think I love this filament. It's just Inland brand black.

It should be ABS, PETG will melt/warp/sag.

It should be ABS, PETG will melt/warp/sag.

From my research PETG is used for all Prusa parts. In the Prusa handbook it says there is almost no warping, and is temperature resistant. A lot of 3d printer users have used it near the hot end on prusa printers and others as well. It seems a healthy mix of ABS and PETG for that area. I'm also fairly sure the fan piece that came with my printer was orange PETG.

If mine warps, it warps. I will just print another until I get a proper enclosure to print ABS. 🙂 that's a project I'm working on this week.

The warping that Eric is talking about is after you put it on your printer as a cooling nozzle. I'm not sure what is causing it, but *some* people are experienceing "sagging" of the cooling ducts, from heat from the hot-end.

Yea that was what I meant in my last comment, sorry! Regardless I'll keep a close eye on it and print in ABS once my enclosure is set up properly.

Yea that was what I meant in my last comment, sorry! Regardless I'll keep a close eye on it and print in ABS once my enclosure is set up properly.

They started printing them in ABS.... the 2.5 upgrade comes with the ABS Fan shroud pre-printed due to the issues (they changed it as it never did before) and i imagine all MK3's do now too.

PETG is only heat resistant up to 80c-85c. it's 20C-25C more than PLA but it's close to the nozzle which is way above that. someone used the FLIR and the part was around that limit, 80c with nozzle at 200-220c. ABS can take up to 100c before it starts to soften a bit.

You should be able to print some smaller ABS part without a fancy enclosure. a cardboard box works though or some other thing temporarily.
