S3D First Layer

Looking for advice on the S3D First Layer setting ("Layer" tab). The profile from S3D for the i3Mk3 has 150%.

So after carefully setting the Live Z with multiple test prints and homing in on the optimal Z height, doesn't any setting other than 100% in S3D effectively contradict / mess up your live Z? Am I missing something?

My optimal Live Z is -0.725, which produces a smooooth bottom layer (i.e. the bottom of the printed model) when using the Firmware Calibrate => First Layer Calibration.

Printing a model using S3D with the First Layer at 150% produces something less grande (pic below).

  • Should I always set S3D First Layer to 100%?
  • How does changing the default layer height interact with the Live Z setting??
  • Do I need different Live Z setting for different layer heights???
  • I'm so confused!!!

When I dial in my z-height I do it using a 75x75 square that's one layer high that I sliced in my slicer myself using the settings I plan to use for other prints. It's trivial to make a 75x75x.20mm box in any 3D modeling app and export it into S3D.
