Nyloc seized up
I broke my Y axis tensioner part, becuase I couldn't get the nut to in, so as per the instructions, I put a bolt through it to pull it in. Except I had an issue. The Nyloc locked onto the bolt so hard it was not funny (and started spinning in the hole). I attempted about 10 things to extract the bolt/nut without totally breaking the part.
Eventually I just took a pair of pliers to rip the bolt/nut out of the plastic. This destroyed the part... BUT I got the bolt-nut out of it!
I then proceeded to spend 10 minutes trying to get the nut off the bolt.
I finally gave up when I broke the nyloc loose, turned about 5 turns, and hit the threads I had damaged trying to remove the said nut.
Has anyone ever experienced a Nyloc Seizing up like this? (I printed a replacement tensioner and it only caused about a 3 hour delay, not a big deal, as it's not a highly visible part. (used E-Sun PLA+ Orange)
The thing is I used to work in Maintance, and I've never seen a Nyloc lock up like that. When you need to use a 10$ extra long Ellen wrench (the japanese guys where i used to work, ALWAYS wrote it as ellen, bad inside joke) and a vice grip, AND a pair of pliers, to "release" the nyloc.
I'm a little upset I need to replace the part, but I already plan on ordering 2 rolls of Prusa Orange, and 1 roll of Prusa Black PETG, for spare parts, so I'm not really worried.
Hi, I'm Sean. I used to work on CNC machines.
I try to not make mistakes, but the decision is YOURS.
Please feel free to donate to my filament/maintance fund.
Re: Nyloc seized up
Stainless on stainless does tend to have the ability of galling from time to time unfortunately. Just the nature of the beast.
Re: Nyloc seized up
Yep! I had the same problem happen on a screw for the heat bed NEW cable cover and nearly destroyed the cover to get out the screw and nut by cutting the screw head off.
