more detailed documentation about the menu

the provided 3D Printing Handbook describes only about 15% of the menu items. Is there any documentation that goes into some depth on each one?

Thanks,
Ken

I just did a comparison with the version of the documentation that came with my kit (V3.01) and I can't find a difference between that version and the V3.1 version. In particular, I looked for changes in "connecting Raspberry Pi Zero W, updated chapters about Power Panic, Spring steel sheets, Wizard…").

Thanks,
Ken

– Version 3.1 (connecting Raspberry Pi Zero W,

I think they have written the wrong version number on the WEB page. In the manual there are 3.01, ie. the version you have in your manual.

Hi Chris, I don't want to sound trite but I'm interested in "all of them". Here's what I'd like to see. Prusa would have a page (or series of pages) on their website that go into depth on all menu items. Why would you want to choose a particular menu item and what could be the side effects of taking an action... Given that the firmware is still in progress, the menu structure is still in flux. Prusa could update their web pages as the firmware changed. The booklet I received with my kit is already out of date and coverage of the menu was only hit and miss.
Thanks,
Ken

are you new to 3d printing? Prusa uses an offshoot of marlin so if you have experience with other marlin based printers there is very little that needs explaining.

I'm not new per se but this is my first Marlin derivative. I can't imagine that Prusa would expect their customers to be Marlin experts. What do you do for a living?

Thanks,
Ken

i test software for the last 14-15 years before that i worked for gateway computers.
this is my second marlin based printer and my 3rd 3d printer overall.
i just found the menu list in the manual (7.2.9 pg 31 and 32) and i literally cannot see any of them that need comment. I am puzzled trying to figure out what you are puzzled by.

can you please give me any example or any number of examples? i would be happy to explain any of them to you

Chris,

Here's one piece in the larger puzzle. There's an entry in the Calibration menu called Show End Stops. In my case that looks like:

End stops diag
X1
Y1
Z0

There's no explanation of this in the manual (version 3.01). I have no idea (beyond the concept of what an end stop is) what these particular values mean, how they get populated, or how they should be used.

Ken

Thanks,
Ken

Could it be a vector? If it is a vector, where does it lie in the 3 space logic? Knowing would add understanding. I agree with you.

I should add to my previous request "what range of values are possible?" David, what would you guess if the possible values were X0 and X1, Y0 and Y1, Z0 and Z1? I'm not sure that's the case but I think these are going to turn out to be binary values representing whether an end stop was encountered or not. Can't be sure but I'm guessing that that Z0 is my problem. Right now I'm struggling with Z calibration.

Thanks,
Ken

I would also like a manual showing all of the menu items and what they are for/how to use them.

This is a recognition of where the end stops are, x at 1 y at 1 and z at zero. There are no physical endstop switches they are all done by sensor now. so if they were switched to different numbers it would be indicative of a problem with the machine. Likely this is in case support has a question while assisting you on the build. in calibration and support items on the menu you will see several of these.

let me know if you have more you'd like info on.

Hi Chris,

I'm not sure what you're saying about switching values. These statements by Prusa Support lead me to believe that they're binary: 0 = end stop not encountered, 1 = end stop encountered.

"Please put the probe a bit more down, use just tip of the plastic zip tie. If you go to show endstops menu, Z value should be zero untill its triggered with something metal. Feel free to use the knife for example and test the probe, the value will change from 0 to 1."

I'm thinking that my PINDA probe is not working properly. It didn't respond to a metal knife. Normally it would be triggered by the heat bed.

Thanks,
Ken

hmm, i had the exact values and i was not at endstop of either x or y or z for that measure.

i'll check the values when the next print finishes.

actually i have a question. with the lights off, does the top of the pinda glow red?

Re: more detailed documentation about the menu

Hi,

My understanding is when the valve is at 1 the end stop is currently triggered. I will take a look tonight when I set up my next print and let you know.

Yes the pinda probe has a LED which is ON when not triggered and OFF when triggered. If you watch it when mesh bed leveling you will see this.

PR is sending me a new probe. Thanks for all your suggestions. The community is a great resource but in the case of documentation of the menu, I think we'd be best served by PR managed, online documents.

hope the replacement part does the trick! i did check z=0 on mine and it certainly does change from 0 to 1 if it is brought into close contact with either metal or magent. I lifted the bed up to the sensor and it changed to 1.

do they think it is not sensing? there are other areas that show values for the pinda, for instance in the support you can check the pinda temperature.
