Interesting New Firmware Merge

Been playing with this a couple days, just noticed it was merged into MK3 official. This adds an Experimental menu item to the MK3 where you can adjust several settings, namely microstep linearity. Please see the discussion for some sample gcode and pic examples.

Been messing with this a couple days now, and the recommended 1.100 settings seem to work fine for me, but curious to see what other users find. Maybe this is the fix for us sensitive to the vertical lines everywhere issue? 🙂

I've been using that as well as merging the pull request from bubnikv which adds a new Linear Advance https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/pull/457

The recommended settings have made a differences to the wall quality of my prints, but can't actually tell if the new Linear Advanced is doing much to the print quality (have tested M900 K0 and M900 K45 for PETG) but it seems to be playing nicely without any layer skips so far. I've only printed smallish parts so far.

I can't recall, what was the reason for them disabling linear advance?

Doesn't play nicely with octoprint on a pi zero w over serial. Timing of g-codes goes off and then you have these weird failed prints with a line of plastic through the middle of them.

I do miss it, I have a pi zero w waiting to be installed when they add it back, but I have been printing from the sd card since day 1, so it would not have affected me at all yet.

Oh yes. I love that they devote the time to fix those quality issues that everyone blames the drivers for. Well driving of the drivers.
I am relieved that it seems that ringing and ghosting and layer shifts is not a hardware problem but can be solved by a more clever software.

Giving this merge a shot. First thing I notice is the motors seem a lot louder, more vibration.

The elimination of the moire pattern on the left cube is pretty impressive...

But more impressive than that... is the lack of ringing when turning those corners! Holy shit, how did he get that!

My corners and turns ring like crazy...

well... not THAT crazy.... but I would love to eliminate them like in that photo.

Drop your external perimeters speed to 15mm/s, or drop your Accel down to 100mm/s. Speed and quality don't seem to mix well on this machine, at least not yet.
