IKEA METOD Mk3 Enclosure

I ordered a Prusa MK3 in the middle of february so i have some time to kill before it is on my doorstep.
Os I used my weekend to make an enclosure with parts from IKEA.
For the main cabinet I used IKEA METOD Fridge/freezer top cabinet frame #002.055.39.
The usable space inside is w: 56,5 cm h: 56,0 cm d: 57,5 cm
You have several door options and colors. and two cabinet colors to choose from.
I did put this in top of the IKEA METOD Base cab 3 fronts/3 medium drawers #690.084.28.
And used leggs CAPITA Stainless steel #302.443.46.
I don't have any pictures yet.
But if somebody want to see it put together just add a replay, and I will update the post.

Seems a very expensive way to build a box! A 2.4m x1. 2mx18mm sheet of plywood is ~£30 (less than half the price of the cabinet) and lots of places will cut the sheet to size for you for free or minimal costs,if you don't have a saw.

Perhaps it's not the cheapest option, but it is a lot simpler to assemble, and a lot better looking than a bunch of plywood sheets, IMHO.

Re: IKEA METOD Mk3 Enclosure

Is w:56,5 cm h:56,0 cm d:57,5 cm big enough to allow the heated bed and cabling to move all the way back?

I built this using the Lack tables. It is a tight fit front to back if you choose to have plexiglass, and that's only if the plexiglass mounts OUTSIDE. Some of the plans have it mounting inside the opening, if you did this then your cable in the back would hit the window.

With it in the enclosure you also can't mount a camera to the bed. It either hits the window or one of the z axis motors.

I placed the printer diagonally and it fits with the outside plexiglass and a camera on the front left of the bed.

Ooh, thanks. I'll try that.

Yeah, a couple of LACK's for $20 (Canadian) total is definitely the way to go.

Re: IKEA METOD Mk3 Enclosure

I can post pictures and details of my enclosure when I finish if people are interested. I've had a few requests on reddit but I haven't gotten around to finishing it and doing a wright-up yet. For now I have two lack tables stacked with extensions making the printer area taller. I also have a filament holder rod mounted on the top of the tables that feeds through a hole I drilled in the top table (cut a cheap ball point pen and used the plastic casing to make the hole more sturdy though I plant to make it a wider slot instead).

I got 6x cheap 24in x 24in x 1/2in foam mats and insulated the top and bottom so far which cuts down on sound by a lot and it's dense enough that it doesn't add much vibration. I still need to cut up my plexiglass for the sides but I got a bunch of strong magnets to make them all quickly removable. Since I have 4 more sections of foam I might magnetically attach them as well for more sound/heat insulation but with the MK3 I probably don't need to.

As far as electronics that I have added I have a magnetic mount LED bar, a temperature probe that will auto shutoff power if the temperature of the enclosure gets too hot (fire/ect), a RaspberryPi 3B with camera and a smart outlet adapter so I can remotely shutoff power if needed. Since the tables are very flammable I bought flame retardant spray but I haven't tried using it yet as I read it's kinda oily. One more thing I might do is purchase (or make) a sturdy sliding platform (like a drawer) to be able to pull the whole printer out and work on it but that isn't really necessary.
