this looks like a bit of over extrusion. have you updated the firmware yet?

if not, I would do a Factory reset, and firmware update. then re calibrate and try again...

with over extrusion, the nozzle ends up ploughing through the deposited filament and causing roughness,,,

the little swirls are probably caused by the wipe process before retraction, this will pretty much dissappear once the over extrusion is sorted...

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I am running the latest 3.1.3 firmware. I updated it before first run or calibration.

I then ran the XYZ calibration and first layer calibration to get the Live Z setting to where it was at.

I also checked the downloads and made sure the SD card files were the latest on the website before printing the sample. The Prusa logo was printed from the Prusa gcode files with no changes.

I did not see a similar issue on the SImplify3D link you supplied. Let me know if I missed it though.

If not a firmware issue, is this normally seen with the stock prusa settings?
Do I need to change the extrusion rates on the supplied files, or should I be looking at some mechanical fix first?

When the first layer starts printing, drop the flow by 3 or 4 in the "tune" menu and see how it looks. It's easier to do that than to change something mechanical and realize it was better before.

You can try changing extrusion as suggested, but the rest of the print doesn't look horribly overextruded and isn't bad at all otherwise. I would sooner re-slice it and play around with restart and coast settings. I know thats an sd card print, but a couple of globs doesn't make for concrete evidence to change your extrusion multiplier.

print some other stuff and have fun.

Hi, I was going to post exactly same issue problem with MK3.
I got this problem with prusa original filament and others also.
And issue occurs also on gcodes created by me (look at triceratops).
Any help appreciated.

Are you both on 3.1.3 firmware?

I'll post a picture of the rest of the print in a bit, but since the rest of the print looks great, so I was a bit hesitant to change too much.

I did see that some extrusion changes were made to 3.1.3 buy I could not find the changelog to see that was changed beyond the lcd display.

A question for the more experienced makers- On the bottom of the print, the side against the PEI sticker, should it be completely glass smooth or can you feel tiny ridges if you scratch your fingernail over it? TIA

I have MK3 for coule weeks and experienced this issue with all firmwares (3.1.1, 3.1.2 and 3.1.3).

Looks like that is how this print might be configured.

I'm going to try to adjust the flow rate as suggested (might play with the retract) since its the quickest thing to try without changing the rest of the print for now.

I have the same problems with my prints too. I tried the prusa logo and the batman with several firmwares and they all look the same as yours. The XYZ Calibration Cube has the same artifacts on top when i slice it by myself.

Now i have set it to 0,93 in slic3r but the artifacts still appear (less but they are there)

I have the latest Slic3r and run FW 3.1.2

Any progress or solutions so far?

From looking at your pictures they all look pretty over extruded, I think it was commented before, you'll need to calibrate the filament to sort that. you could just guess and lower it buy 5% but to get things sized correctly you'll need to calibrate

This is the most useful print for fixing extrusion issues.

I typically print it upside down. (check for elephants foot, as it has a lip on the bottom to make elephants foot not matter) and I print it at 50% Z height. (a bit less filament)

Basically...
You print 2 of these at a time.
If it takes any amount of force to push them together, you are over extruding.
If you put them together, and the parts are just "sloppy", you are under extruding.

Thanks for the suggestion on the test file Sean.

I have been playing around with only changing the extrusion rate when printing. The standard extrusion rate from the output of the prusacontrol app seems to be 95. I have got it down to 85 and the artifacts are pretty much gone.

During the print, I went into "Tune" then Flow and dropped it down from there.

Have not changed any other settings so far and the test prints are coming out perfect. I'm printing an actual file right now. I'll let you know how it goes.
