First ABS experiment, what went wrong?

Hi

I am totally new in 3d stuff, Prusa MK3 KIT is my first touch since last weekend.
Got it assembled quite easily and i have allready printed all extruder parts from PETG and some PLA stuff from SD included and all went nice.

Now put my printer to cabinet (old shelf with ikea door) in my garage. I did all calibration again.

I wanted to do bath toy for my daughter, so i loaded ABS to printer and took benchy.stl to Prusa Control
-scaled it to 200%
Material: Prusa ABS
Quality: Optimal 0,15mm
Infill: Standart 20%

Big benchy has something wierd at front, i noticed while printing, outer layers bend up there and almost touched pinda probe.
There are other flaws also...

Shrinkage? Is my garage too cold? Garage temp is about +12 - +14c
Should i add insulation to cabinet, or even external heater?
What tests and adjustment should i make to get prints perfect?
ANY comments and ideas are most welcome! 😕

throw a cheap thermometer in there when printing and see what the ambient temp is. Prusa suggested to me that it should not be over 40C\104F.

Hard to say without more data on whats happening in there while printing.

Benchy does not swim, I would choose another model for the bathtub 😉

Will do that. It is less than 40 for sure.

without insulation it might not be "hot" enough with passive heating. I have a smaller printer that with a DIY enclosure that does great with ABS and passive heating.

I actually get my MK3 today and i've built and enclosure for it... so I can get back to you with how my stuff works out.

Please do so!

I may put insulation and seals on door if needed, there is a 15mm gap at the bottom side. What would be optimal inside temp?
I have now cheap thermometer inside, but soon i will add some humidity/temp, etc. Z-wave sensor, and may even control some heater with it.

I've not printed much ABS yes. (and what I have, has been a disaster... (my own fault))

But that looks STRIKINGLY like under-cooling.

Slowing your print speed MAY help... but as I said, I am not familar with ABS/ASA and other high temp stuff... I do need to build a cabinet though. (thinking about building it out of acrylic, and 3D printed parts... would look sharp. ;))

I've got a spool of PC just begging to be printed.

Hi, I'm Sean. I used to work on CNC machines.
I try to not make mistakes, but the decision is YOURS.

I have done some PETG now, temp stabilizes around 30c, so with abs it will be more.
This tell me that it may not be too cold in cabin.

Does anyone have something good and tested g code (mk3/Prusa) ABS for testing?

My Qi dock came out quite nice.
Temp was 34 inside cabin.
