can't get anything back into calibration after switching materials. Bottom Layer is way off

I have had a horrible time after attempting and failing to print good quality abs or petg. but now when i switch back to my original prusa pla I cant get a decent bottom layer at all. rerun calibration over and over. my original offset was -.682ish and now it seems to want -.9 or more. cleaned the pei sheet with acetone and alcohol. but i dont get very good bed adhesion. cleaned out the tip with a needle, heated the tip to 295 and extruded a bunch to make sure that there is no abs or petg stuck. but I seem to get blobs during prints like ooooooOoooooooooOooOoooooOooooOo I can include pics if that helps but im almost out of my original prusa pla and makergeeks seems to suck. so I want to get it calibrated on good stuff if possible. Any thoughts would help.
thanks

Have you rerun a Z calibration recently? I make a habit to redo it every time I move the machine, seems like I always bump one of the Z screws.

Try doing a "Factory Reset" - Delete all data. Then Redo XYZ Cal and RE-set your Live Z Offset.

I chased my tail for a while but something was bad in the XYZ or leveling or something. The above made it behave correctly again.

Any advices given are offered in good faith. It is your responsibility to ensure that by following my advice you do not suffer or cause injury, damage or loss. If you solve your problem, please post the solution…

I too am having this issue - after changing PLA from the silver to ivory or green I cannot get the first layer to adhere. I'm also getting the blobs.

I've attached a couple of pictures to illustrate the issue.

I'll try a full reset and report back.

So I solved my problems:

  • Moved my printer to a more stable table.

  • Recalibrated the printer

  • Stopped using rubbish solvent to clean the bed. This was causing the PLA to do weird things like bubble and not adhere to the bed.
  • It's now printing brilliantly again. 🙂

High quality filament helps much too. I am plagued with issues like this with my el-cheapo filament... heh... I just can't help myself... Cheap filament is just so much fun to waste!

Once I build my Mk3, I plan on putting it on a sheet of glass, to give it a crazy-rigid platform. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it where I want it or not though, where I want it, might cause issues with vibration/shakey-shakey.

Hi, I'm Sean. I used to work on CNC machines.
I try to not make mistakes, but the decision is YOURS.
Please feel free to donate to my filament/maintance fund.
