Calibration Error

Seems like everything im trying is not working. It is with the XYZ calibration when it starts looking for the four points, as soon as it starts I get an error saying to check the calibration and that it failed.

Pic 1:

Pic2:

I've lowered both Z rods to have the hotend touch the bed and I still get this gap

Re: Calibration Error

The hotend isn't touching the bed in the picture you posted. You mean the pinda probe is touching the bed? The probe should be mounted higher than the nozzle, if it isn't go back to the manual and recheck the steps describing how to adjust the pinda probe.

If that wasn't what you meant you'll have to explain it again, more clearly.

Sorry, in one of the assembly steps, it says to turn both Z rods equally until the hotend touches the bed and it does that when the printer when through the pretest, but when it comes to xyz calib. for some reason it hightenens the hotend.

Re: Calibration Error

The second picture looks like the PINDA-Probe is mounted deeper then the nozzle. Could it be that you misunderstood the manual and put the zip tie below the nozzle instead of the PINDA probe? You have to lower the z axis manually until the nozzle is right above the bed and then put a zip tie below the probe and gently push it on the zip tie. Then you can clamp the probe and restart the calibration. God luck!

Should the nozzle be touching the bed or just slightly above it?

Re: Calibration Error

i put a sheet of writing paper on the bed and gently lowered the cold nozzle directly on to the paper.

Thanks, I'll try that and report back.

Re: Calibration Error

I think I found my problem, when the Z is calibrating and going all the way up. the rods don't seem to be stopping at the same place? I still hear the clicking, but when the exturder is coming down, I get the calibration failed error message right away and it seems like the nozzle doesn't even hit the bed at all

Is something obstructing the Z axis? Check for stray zip-ties and cables.

Re: Calibration Error

Your pinda probe is positioned too low.
You really need to follow the manual.
Loosen the screw holding the pinda probe, carefully lower the head until the metal nozzle touches the bed, put a zip tie under the pinda probe and tighten it again.

With the current Pinda position the printer is smart enough to realize that something is off.

I keep trying that, the left Z rod will not go all the way up, I have to turn it by hand to make it match the height of the right rod

Re: Calibration Error

is the X motor cable tight when the x carriage is toward the top of it's Z motion?

that could prevent the carriage reaching the end stops...

are you using the latest firmware with increased Z motor current?

Re: Calibration Error

The cable is not super tight, if I press the top it’s easy for it to bend. Also I did upgrade to the latest firmware and it kind of goes up a little more but not much. When I do the manual height for the nozzle for the left side, I put the nozzle touching the bed, but when I move it to the right? It’s very high again.

Re: Calibration Error

with the power off, Can you manually wind the Z leadscrews up so that the carriage is touching both sides at the top

then try calibration again
this might help! regards Joan

Re: Calibration Error

I had exactly the same problem when trying to run the initial calibration via the Wizard. I always got the XYZ error in the same phase, until I decided to upgrade the printer firmware to the latest (b138 RC3 at the time) and suddenly everything started working. My quess was that the calibration did not run the Z-axis calibration properly or something. Anyway, worked for me, might work for you as well. My original firmware was dated around middle of november.

I upgraded the firmware last night and it sort of fixed the rods, but I still manually change the left one to match the right, now when the hotbed comes down for the 4 points, it starts very high up and runs all 4 then slams down and tries to fix itself.

Re: Calibration Error

the first time I had the printer calibrate Z the X axis rods ~ crashed into the filament spool holder. I had it on backward.

The height was similar so please check to see if the spool holder is hanging off the back of the frame leaving the front free and clear.

The holder is in the correct position, but when the hot end comes down to check the 4 points, it runs through all points than goes back to the first and jams into the bed
