ABS problems

I recently assembled my MK3 and I have printed a few things. PLA prints have gone really well, but ABS prints are failing rather similarly.
There is warping and the extruder seems to be bumping into previous layers at times. I have no problems with the print not sticking to the bed; quite the contrary.

Here's a picture to illustrate. Both cubes ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1278865 ) are 0.1mm layer height and using default settings for respective filament in Prusa Control. Left cube is PLA and the right one in ABS.

Any tips would be much appreciated. It seems a bit strange to me that the results are so much different on standard settings on a very small print.

Re: ABS problems

ABS is very susceptible to ambient air temperature fluctuations. If you are going to print with ABS i would consider making a DYI enclosure. Joel the 3d nerd with Punished props made a simple cheap one out of rigid insulation foam.

that should solve most of your problems with ABS.... keeping the base layer stuck is the biggest issue as uneven cooling will make things warp. Also on my hold printrbot I print without a cooling fan.

I am still waiting for my MK3... so i can report back more on this once I receive it.

Re: ABS problems

FYI those foam sheets are like $5 bucks each at home depot (at least near me)

Re: ABS problems

Looks like it's way too hot. Try lowering the temp. or print multiple objects at the same time.
The 0.1 layer height from my experience doesn't print well with ABS. 0.15 or 0.2 looks usually better.

What slicer?
What filament?
What temps? (bed and nozzle)

Re: ABS problems

I was a little tired when i posted so i reread and decided to try mine with the same.

firmware - 3.1.1-201
slicer - prusa control v 0.9-4_415_beta
settings Generic ABS, detail - 0.1, infill standard 20%
support none, brim none

clean PEI with live z = -0.405

mild ringing around the x and y with some reduction in size. dimensions measured above and below the letters are all very close to 20 (19.86-19.91) and z was a perfect 20. I think the shrinkage from the extra surface area of the letters impacted the size in that area.

no curling or hitting the print as you can see from stats. Although center infill was messy
