Y axis bearing mounting mod MK2s- Rods scored
Hi there,
Our Mk2s has been running great for a few months but i am now having issues with bed leveling and the y axis bearings.
The right side rod is now scored and the noise is increasing. I have personally blamed this on the clamp system for the bearings possibly distorting the already cheap bearings. Im a engineer by trade and thought the whole bed set-up was rubbish from the get go as i would traditionally of used a solid frame myself like on CNC's etc i have worked on. It seems sadly drilling etc is required for most box section upgrades so i am not keen to do one when under warranty.
Anyway my question is if the bed seems higher now on one side should i try and lower it or ultimately fix the rod and bearing issue when i have the parts? And does anyone have any good bearings to suggest as an upgrade. I dont want the plastic things as i just do not approve of using bushings that will wear when a good linear will last forever if lubed. I am also going to use a printed clamp design for the bearings going forward to ditch the u clamps as a weak spot.
Another cause i will check after this print i suppose could be that the heat bed bolts are loose due to the increased vibration on the y axis right side
I am about to upgrade it to a mk2.5 anyway so will be taking it to bits soon. It is still printing perfect it just fails the occasional cal and i can see it catches the rear right corner on cal.

Sounds like a bearing is going out, I had one do it to me after 6 months on mine, had to put a new rod and bearing in to fix.

That is what i suspected. I had the bed within .02 across all corners when i built it so something has changed.
Prusa have sent me some new rods and bearings so alls well that ends well. I am going to fit some better mounts for the bearings too as i suspect the u clamps will not have helped.

I believe mine was just a bad bearing and went out, as for the u-bolt if you over tighten them they can cause and issue with the bearing as well.
I haven't tried the printed holders for it though.

I have it built up with the new bearing holders on now and some NB japanese bearings. I will let you know the results but so far it seems great.
