Why does this happen?

I'm printing some parts and getting some odd wiggly grooves. Not all the time but sometimes.

It happens on the flat vertical surfaces, which SHOULD be nice and smooth. Some sections of t he surface ARE as smooth as expected, but other sections just look horrible. This has only started doing this recently.  I'm using brand new filament from hatchbox, which is the filament I've always been using.

Advice would really be appreciated.

Looks like a feed problem.  Check for a partial clog.  Could be the filament too.

How do I go about checking for a clog? I ran the Load Filament process and let it keep pushing filament through the nozzle and it seemed to do it just fine.

I've tried two separate spools of filament, both of them brand new, and there was the same issue with each.

RE: Why does this happen?

Does it do it with any other colour but white ?  White is the most problematic colour, mainly down to the fact that the white pigment is often some form of titanium oxide. Quite often white requires tweaked filament settings. Doesn’t matter if it’s new or not.

you can do a cold pull if it is a partial clog but it sounds like you are getting intermittent buildups of the oxide pigment which is causing the filament to not flow properly. You could try reducing your overall print speed and/or bumping temps 5-10 degrees.

Have you considered changing your nozzle ?  That was my go to for clogged nozzles.

But given that it is only one filament color… That probably rules out a clogged nozzle.

I'd go with nozzle clog as well 🤷‍♂️

…and nozzles are very cheap.  Especially brass nozzles.
