Thin Curved Object

Hello!

How would you go about printing this object? It's thin, tall and curved. I tried printing it standing up and it works but it's very unstable and the overhangs give some stringing. I added a brim and it seemed to help.

Prusaslicer does not seem to be able to generate supports for overhangs. I think if it could do that, it would add a lot of stability to the print.

That's quite an odd thing to print.

Is there any reason you cannot lay it flat on the print sheet to simplify the process?

Or just cut it from a sheet of stock plastic?

Your overhangs are not steep enough to trigger automatic supports.  Use the support painter to mark the overhang where you want support and reslice.

Cheerio,

Cheerio,

Yes it is pretty odd! It's for a lamp design I would like to try to 3D print.

The part is slightly curved and I don't think a sheet of plastic would work exactly. Maybe if I heat and bend it perhaps? 🤔

The biggest problem with laying it flat is that it is slightly curved on the z axis (the top overhangs the bottom). So it will not sit perfectly flat on the bed. This could work, but it's a lot of overhangs and probably will need a bit of sanding to get a nice surface.

Ideally, I would like to print them standing up because I can print 6 at a time. I need 72 prints of this part, so the more at once the better 😅

It seems like this might work, so i'll give it a shot.
