Tall objects

I am having problems with printing tall objects. Like this for example
https://www.thingiverse.com/download:722296

When I try to print the poles (150mm high) at some point everything becomes a stringy mess. I am using a brim to make sure that the parts are securely attached to the base. No issues there.
I also removed the spool from the top of the printer (in case it created more vibrations). Also slowed down to 50% in order to have even less vibrations.
Slicer used SlicerPE (Prusa PLA filament, infill 15%, brim selected and supports on base plate only) using the 0.2 QUALITY setting and using the default 0.4 nozzle.
Filament used Prusa (not prusament) PLA.
The best I got was 120mm before the stringy mess started.
Any recommendations at what to do?

Re: Tall objects

A photo of the mess would help.

At this point, guessing the the part coming loose from the bed?

Re: Tall objects

Thanks for the response. The part was still fixed to the bed....looked as if the head crashed into the object or maybe a layer did not join with the previous...unfortunately did not take a photo of the mess.

Re: Tall objects

Tall parts can partially detach, especially if a brim is used, and look attached; they wiggle without much force and eventually fail. If a part is moving under the extruder, it's come loose or the part is too weak for the height and needs lateral supports.

Re: Tall objects

Thought a brim would make the part(s) attach better. So next time no brim.....How do I add lateral supports? Is there a setting in SlicerPE?

Re: Tall objects

Brims do help keep parts attached: but they don't help much if the bed isn't clean, or if the part has a very small bed to height ratio. Printing a pencil vertically is problematic.

Slic3r PE doesn't have the ability to create lateral supports (that I know of).

Lateral supports are typically designed in when creating the part in your CAD tool.
