Residue of previous filament hours into print
Hi!
This is kind of a minor issue because it doesn't result in bad or failed prints, but it's been bugging me for a while with prints that are supposed to look pretty.
After changing filament, I usually purge it 2 or 3 times more by selecting 'No' when asked by the printer whether the right colour was extruded, despite it was. Just to make sure.
Yet, hours into the next print, the old colour pops up from time to time. See image (which was taken during print, hence the fuzziness..)
This print takes about 4 hours, so the red bits are roughly 2 hours into the print.
Is there a way, other than changing the nozzle, to fix this? I don't see this happening with my old and scruffy Ender 3, so I take it it's not something that is just part of FFF-printing. I'm using an original 0.4mm nozzle and have not modified the printer in any way other than hooking it up to Octoprint.
Thanks!
RE: Residue of previous filament hours into print
Most likely filament stuck to the outside of the nozzle or the heater block. Could also be a leaking hotend but I'd expect to see more serious issues from that. I tend to clean the nozzle and the heater block with a soft wire brush. Not every time but every now and then, and always when swapping nozzles.
