Prusament PC Blend Carbon Fiber Black, pccf

Has anyone had good luck printing Prusament PC Blend Carbon Fiber Black?

I have blobs or marks on the top of my parts.

With the extrusion multiplier set at Prusaslicers default 1.04, printing in vase mode the walls measure .546mm, when printing the same model with Pla and Petg the walls measured .457mm.

Not sure which direction to go to get nice pccf prints.

It is also difficult to get the textured finish from the plate.

If anyone has had good luck please share your settings.

Using:

Mk3s+ at 285/110c

Prusaslicer 2.5.0

Textured and satin sheets.

Thanks, Eric

Good results with the base settings.  I had to dry it.

How long did you dry it for and what temp?

I dried mine for seven days in a photo dry box.  It does not use heat.

I haven't used PCCF myself, only PC.  I have a PrintDry Pro dryer and I dried PC at 75 degrees for more than six hours.

The default setting is probably fine using the exact same hardened steel nozzle as they used when configuring it. Maybe you need a nozzle that limit flows and doesn't transfer heat greatly to use the default settings.

In my case I'm using a .4mm tungsten carbide nozzle. I had to reduce the temp to 275c and extrusion multiplier to 0.97 to get better result. Even with those changes I mostly run my print with "external perimeter first" because there is still a little bit of overextrusion. If not when I use 4 perimeters my parts are definitely larger and I can't use precise fit between parts. The only downside of using external perimeter first is sometime the look of the finished parts are not perfect and also the overhangs are mostly bad.

I'm using the Satin sheet only.

I choose PCCF over PACF because I didn't want to struggle with a dehydrator. And indeed there is no stringing.
But I found the PCCF tend to foam a tiny bit. That could explain the over-thickness and poor fit. I should test with filament dried. A PrintDry Dryer 2.0 is on my whishing list but I have no place for it.

The foaming might be by hydration.  PCCF will hydrate over time too.  The stinginess of PCCF tends to bran dependent.  I get very little stringing with Prusament PC Blend with CF.

When I talked about PCCF, it was indeed Prusament PC Blend with CF. I should have mentioned it.
Otherwise it is a fantastic material to print.

It is a great filament.  I need a better source in the US.

Sorry for late replay! I was browsing looking for something else and came across your thread… I love printing with PC-CF but like you I struggled initially with the extrusion multiplier and getting accurate prints. In the end I found the trick was to use a multiplier of 1.02 and the adjusting the perimeters and external perimeter to 0.4mm instead of 0.45mm. It now prints so cleanly it’s hard to see the layer lines 👍

RE:

I just made some extrusion multiplier calibration for the PCCF today because now I have a dryer.

I got:

  • 0.83 when the filament is not dried.
  • 1.04 when the filament is dried.

PCCF foam quite a lot when not dried.

My driyer is the Eibos3D.

Ron, What temp did you dry the Prusa PCCF at and for how long?

RE:

There is no temp on the Eibos easydry, only a selector. I set it to PC. I joined the temps advised by Eibos.

For the time, it was much more than the 8h advised by Eibos. I can't remember. I had time to let it in the dryer.

Now I set the spool in a vacuum bag when not use. And in the dryer when used.

Here the diagram of the selector which is different from the table I posted earlier.
Then "PC" position should be 60-65°C on my dryer. I never checked with a thermometer. It is still a Chinese product then quality controls...

RE:

Yes, I had great luck printing it.  I used standard PrusaSlicer profile.
I did dry it using max setting (70C) for my old Eibos Cyclopes.

This filament produces outstanding results.  Layer lines hardly show. Detail is great. The print removes easily from satin plate with a glue release layer, as per prusa instructions.

But for those parts requiring underneath supports, that's different story. I used organic supports, and most of them removed easily except for some bits on lowest parts of the model I have to get stuck into them with a craft knife, and the finish was pretty ordinary after that, because the black filament has light/white marks when abraded or cut or scraped.
My cunning plan to overcome this is to use ASA as support filament for this (soluble using Acetone) when I have XL x 5 working.  Not sure if I'll even give it a try using MMU.

RE: Prusament PC Blend Carbon Fiber Black, pccf

I've been through quite a few spools of Prusament PCCF lately. It's got a unique look and feel, nothing like 3D printed. Just gorgeous. And it prints very easily.

But I found there are some caveats.

It's very stiff. I used it to print parts for my Mk4, and while everything looks great, the rod holders were just unforgivingly tight and it required some "persuasion" with a mallet to get the rods in.

It hates overhangs, and bridging is bad compared to PLA or PETG. And using support doesn't really make much of a difference.

It likes to curl around the nozzle and requires some attention at the beginning of a print to remove oozing filament.

It really sticks to the sheet, in my case satin, and leaves print marks behind. Either use glue stick, or as I do, use a dedicated sheet.

I've had the occasional little drop of filament and other tiny artifacts, which tells me it's time to put it back in the dryer. I use a Printdry Pro at 75 C overnight.

And obviously you need a hardened steel nozzle. I use tungsten carbide on my Mk3s and Minis and Obxidian on Mk4 and XL.

I have a role of this filament to use with my MK3S and I'd like to avoid using glue sticks. I do intend on getting a dedicated sheet for this filament. What, if any, is the best sheet to use if I want to avoid glue?

I'd go with satin or textured sheets.

Yes, I figured one of those... but which one? Or does it simply not matter at all?
