RE: Prusament ASA sticking too well on PEI sheet
I have seen several comments that window cleaner is all the same. They are not.
Original Windex ingredients:
Water
2-Hexoxyethanol, surfactant
Isopropanolamine, de greaser and dissolves soap residue
Ammonium Hydroxide (Ammonia)
Lauryl Dimethyl Amine Oxide, surfactant, antimicrobial, solubilize protiens
Sodium Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate, surfactant
Fragrance and Dye

Well, i guess that here’s the catch then... in my country original windex is not available (at least i didn’t manage to find it), so i tried all possible window cleaners from local shops...

Out of curiosity, does Amazon deliver there? I know they carry it, but I also recognize that they don't sell certain items in some places.

I have to agree with you, and the ingredient list is interesting, perhaps protoncek can glean some useful info from it.

Amazon... well, it's a shop i tend to "forget", since almost each time i tried to buy anything from there i was getting an error that item can't be sent into my country. What can i say.. Slovenia is still considered as "eastern" and ex. Yugoslavia country, i guess...
But, i did check out on German Amazon: windex itself is 12€ (that's A LOT!), but shipping is another 7€. That would be 19€ for...window cleaner? i guess that "no, thanks" is in the order... 😭
RE: Prusament ASA sticking too well on PEI sheet
yeah that's a steep price, sorry

RE: Prusament ASA sticking too well on PEI sheet
Hi,
I destroyed my smooth PEI layer yesterday because of ASA. I printed with Brim and it didn't come off. Wanted to pull it off with the oven scraper.... had kept me to the Prusa specifications.
What I take from the topic:
- use textured sheet for ASA
- glue if using the smooth PEI sheet for ASA
- if it doesn't come off, put the sheet in the freezer (20min)
Is that correct? I do not want to destroy the second side.

I agree! Your advice on this a few weeks ago has been a godsend!

Has also happened to me. I filled the defective area with 2K glue, smoothed it out and coated the printing plate with Kapton. Since then, I have been printing ASA on Kapton. Thus, the printing plate continues to do its job.

Kapton works. The more prints on your bed, the more it will stick.

From these bad experiences i see that there's one thing to bear in mind: if /when someone will have a useless plate (destroyed on one or both sides) it's a good idea to remove PEI completely and then just stick kapton tape on it and you have another plate for ASA. Then it's just needed to calibrate another "sheet" on printer.

Ok, thanks, I think I will order a cheap uncoated sheet from China and stick it with Kapton. I have a 50x50mm wound in the PEI coating, smoothing or peeling is beyond my skill. Temporarily I will print around this area and if needed put the sheet in the freezer.
My next project is with PC, I am curious what surprises this material holds for me.

I have several plain steel plates with Kapton tape on them, but that would work to just add it to a wornout plate.

Haven't tried ASA, but ABS works very well on the satin sheet. Hopefully they will be available to buy soon.

On the MK3, I also glued the Kapton directly to the spring steel plate and print my special filaments on it. In the example shown above, I only glued over the defective PEI layer. Removing the PEI layer is a messy job, which I wanted to prevent.

Messy is no over-statement. I did it to one sheet and it was terrible.

Just keep in mind, typically, it works well until it doesn’t anymore. At that stage, it usually over adheres to the bed.

Time will tell. But it's a big difference compared to clean PEI.
RE: Prusament ASA sticking too well on PEI sheet
I admit, removing PEI is a messy job, i did it once on MK2. But, putting kapton over damaged PEI only works if PEI is still relatively flat, otherwise bottom part of the prints will be ugly...
