Prusa Slicer 2.2.0 Brim and Elephant foot compensation

Hello,

I am not sure if this is a feature or a bug of Prusa Slicer 2.2.0.

When you use Prusa Slicer 2.2.0 with the default settings for PLA and other materials, the setting "Elephant foot compensation" is set by default to 0.2mm. This makes that when you slice the model with a brim, at the moment of printing, the brim will be detached from the model, defeating the purpose of having a brim in the first place.

This costed me two gigantic print failures (spaghetti monsters, with the filament jamming the Y axis and the X axis belt), before I understood that you have to set the "Elephant foot compensation" to zero.

This didn't happen in previous versions of Prusa Slicer. I fail to understand the logic behind this setup.
Any idea if it's a bug?

RE: Prusa Slicer 2.2.0 Brim and Elephant foot compensation

This is an issue that has been discussed on the forum and reported as issues on GitHub, like this.

The answers I have seen is that this is not a bug, but by design. Elephant food compensation has to be set to 0 when using a brim to be sure it attaches to the part bottom. The same goes for the skirt, it has to be changed to avoid it colliding with the brim.

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

Thanks for your answer and the link to GitHub. The conversation there is pretty interesting and I totally agree with Uko.

I should read the Forums more often 😀
