Problem with stringing on Black PETG

My last prints using black PETG from dasfilament.de worked really fine, there is just one thing that is not as good as i would like. There ist stringing, so i startet testing some settings.
- First i reduced the nozzle Temp from 90 to 85 and then to 80 an 75 => did not make any big change
- then i tried reducing the bed Temperature from 240 to 230 => did not help
- so i tried more Retraction and increased length / lift Z and Speed => did not help really
- after that i reduced first layer speed => the same, no reduce of the stringing

Are there any Hints for me? Attached a picture from my problem. I know black PETG will always have some stringing, but for the moment i think it´s too much.

Re: Problem with stringing on Black PETG

I would be interested in this too. Have the same filament (PETG Black from dasfilament) and compared for example to Prusa PETG orange it strings much more or needs other settings than the Prusa PET ones.

I use a lot of black PETG from Das Filament, i have not observed any stringing problems.

Im not in front of my slicer comouter for the moment but below are the essentials.

220/80
40 mm/s, first layer 60%
retraction 0.40
NO z-lift

I use the same filament. Would be nice, if you could post the other parameter you've set for this filament or even better export the profile and make it accessable.

As you have disabled z-lift, how do you cope with the issue of the nozzle leaving marks in the top layer when it travels to distinct positions. IMO using z-lift is the only way to prevent this though it might increase stringing and generate zips with a filament like PETG.

Re: Problem with stringing on Black PETG

Thanks for your help. So i changed Settings to the following:

220/80
40 mm/s, first layer 60%
retraction 0.40
NO z-lift

But in my case the fine threads changed to even bigger sharp points, all about 4mm. Almost impossible to remove. Feeling some
kind of helpless. Think i´ll try some other PETG or at least different colour. For the moment the part in the first picture ist the best i can get.

Re: Problem with stringing on Black PETG

You need more retraction for PET. 1.0mm to 1.2, depending on brand. I also print hotter- upwards of 270 , even for my Prusa PETG.

Re: Problem with stringing on Black PETG

For the moment it feels quite disappointing for me. I tried different temperatures, more retract - up to 2. No Z-Lift. Changed the Flo value due printing. Also tried different speed settings. But it becomes even worse. Seems the best i can get is like seen in the first picture, even when i change to white PETG, looked even worse 🙁

So is there something i can try? Or are there any recommendations for PETG Filament, which works fine with MK3. If i see right, the Prusa one is out of stock for the moment.

Thanks.

Re: Problem with stringing on Black PETG

Are you running the fan always on? That cooling is sometimes just enough combined with retraction to greatly reduce strings. (try min 30%)
I use a lot of 3DXTech PETG, the adhesion is great about 240C with little stringing

Re: Problem with stringing on Black PETG

I´m using default settings from Prusa PET for cooling. Keef fan always on is activated and Fan speed min is set on 30, max is set to 50. Bridges fan speed is using 50%. Fan is disabled for the first 3 layers.

Which settings for retraction are you using? I increased to 2mm.

Thanks.

Re: Problem with stringing on Black PETG

I run 1mm retraction at 40mm/s, with 0.6 Z lift.
wiping with retraction, 1mm minimum travel

It isn't always about the retraction distance- sometimes speeding it up will help

Thanks for the hint with retraction speed. But for the moment it becomes more and more a nightmare. Think here is something completly wrong. The only thing i get for the moment ist like in the attached picture 🙁
Think i will have a break for the next few days, doesn´t make any fun for now.

Re: Problem with stringing on Black PETG

Try printing more than one at a time, or a few different test pieces at once- even with cooling on, there is little time for the filament to cool before traveling.
Don't get discouraged- that's why there's forums like this, and many others in the community for support

Hello!

Are there any new Information on this issue? Did you print with the stock settings for PETG?

Re: Problem with stringing on Black PETG

What is your extrusion ratio? Try lower it down a bit.

It's a long shot but no harm to try.

Re: Problem with stringing on Black PETG

Did not make any prints the last few days. Think my next steps will be

- updating Firmware to 3.2.1
- reinstall driver package, to make sure i´m using the original Prusa PET profile default values
- ordering some original black PET from Prusa

Extrusion ratio means the flow value?

Interessting point for me was Z-Offset, do i have to do the first layer calibration for each material?

Thanks for your help.

The print in the first post´s picture was made with Prusa PET Settings. For now everything i changed made it even worse.

Re: Problem with stringing on Black PETG

So today i tried with new firmware and 1.40 Version of slic3r PE. I started with Prusa PET Settings and tested only different temperatures for today. Got the best results with 225°/75°. Next step will be testing more retraction, what is the max recommendet value? And more or less retraction speed. Perhaps more or less cooling could help? I´m a bit confused, some people say put fan speed to the max, other people say no fan can help.

So many variables 😯 Thought printing would be easier 😀 Could someone do a test print, the part is 2080224 from thingiverse. Perhaps it is almost impossible printing it in PETG without the threads :geek:

Thanks in advance.

If all else fails, try an ooze shield.
