I was printing my replacement my extruder replacement parts in black esun petg I dropped a part it fell to the concrete floor and broke is this normal for petg filament I thought it was tougher than that ?

Hi Gary,
I wouldn't have expected a breakage
but there are many possibilities...
did the model break in a particularly vulnerable place?, did it break along a layer line?
PETG normally has much better interlayer bonding than PLA
I have printed some replacement target winder return pulleys for my local airgun club... the originals got shot out...
my PLA replacements lasted a bit longer, but my PETG Replacements have lasted a lot longer...
of course, this could simply mean that the shooters have got more accurate and now hit the actual target more frequently...

Serendipitous!
I just watched a YT vid--Things you should know about PETG--by Tom Sanladerer, that mentioned this exact possibility. The cause... water. I don't have an index, but the whole vid is only about 8 min., and IMO worth watching.

Ive had this happen to petg open more than 2 weeks, it seems as it absorbs water it looses integrity. I now try and use up a spool within a week i dont even open one till i have enough prints ready to go to use it all up.

If that works, great, but I think just keeping it in a sealed bag/container with desiccants when not printing should be fine. The vid mentions oven-drying for a couple/few hours (which seemed better than the 8+ hours recommended for drying out nylon!)

Yeah i have a food dehydrator coming soon that i intend to modify into a filament dryer, my oven does not go down low enough to be useful for this purpose. But until then ive been ok with having it open a week or less, printed 7 spools so far and only had issues with 2 that were open more than a week. I have also herd that some formulations of PETG are better than others in regards to absorbing water, so maybe some users are good for several weeks ive just found that my suppliers gets to wet after 7 days or so in my 70-80% humidity climate.
