Outer Dimensions change, if printed part has a solid bottom (e.g. Cup vs. Tube)

Hallo everyone.

I have a strange printing phenomenon I can not get rid of.
When i have a bowl, or box like structure, The outer dimensions of the print are significantly smaller. This only happens for the layers, that print the bottom or other floors of the structure.

The indented rim gets proportionally larger and smaller depending on the size of the print. This bowl has a diameter of appr. 15 cm

.Rim at the bottom of the Bolw

The next one is a test print i did with a simple cylinder (6 cm diameter). One is like a cup with a solid bottom, the other one is a tube. Both printed at the same time next to each other.

Test Print for Indent Rim

Any hints on what i should do are welcome.

  • Printer: Prusa MK3 (upgraded to mk3s+)
  • Tested Fillament: Prusament PLA, NoName PLA, Verbatim PETG, Extrudr PETG
  • Tested Slicer (Linux): PrusaSlicer 2.2.0 and 2.4.2, Simplify3D 4.1

Thanks a lot in advance.

Looks like the well known "bulge" issue.

This is a well-known phenomenon, with more than 20 pages of discussion in this forum.

TL;DR: Many suggestions, no universally applicable solution.

To quote @bobstro:

Happily, this was described as a “buldge” in an early post and that misspelling has made the problem very easy to search for. There are several threads you might want to look through:

Thread one - Buldge when print reaches solid layers.

Thread two - Any tips to get rid of the bulge?

Thread three - Mitigate wall bulge.
