Major Layer Shift

Hey Everyone,

So, my prints began to get a lot of stringing so I decided to go back to the default settings in my slicer. Halfway up the print I had a MAJOR layer change. File Attached.

I've pushed my finger down on the belts and the X-Axis belt is fine. I put my finger down on the Y-Axis, and its tight too, but it doesn't make the base kind of sound when you strum it. Not sure if it should sound the same as maybe the top one?

Also, when I put the SD card in and chose the file, it told me that the "file is incomplete, continue anyways?" I was having this issue last week but solved it by reformatting the SD card. I did the same when this happened but this time the error came up again anyways. Maybe it's to do with this?

Any suggestions on what might be going wrong with my machine?

Thank you everyone in advance! 🙂

Not sure why I can't show the entire image but the top half is probably 15 mm off the bottom half of the y-axis

try adding media to insert into your post.

if it's saying the file is incomplete that's definitely a clue.   What kind of machine are you working on?  linux, windows, mac?

For some reason when I add media it's the same thing, it automatically is cropping the image

I bought both my units assembled so I'm only guessing here.  Is this new behavior or has it been since you built the printer?  Are you able to print any of the presliced .gcode files that came on the SD?   What version of the slicer?

it does that, but if you click on the link you'll see the whole thing.  At least that has been my experience.

Just new behavior. I bought the DIY kit and assembled it back in March. Only in the last couple weeks have I had alot of problems with stringing and incomplete gcode files. But it I run my past gcode files, they dont say incomplete

Interesting.  have you checked the filesystem.  I don't recall off the top of my head how to do it on mac, but something like a fsck or chkdsk.  Is static a major problem where you are?  I know here in Colorado, static can be a huge concern.  I have grounding strips set up and a grounding mat.  and I always ground myself before touching the printer, memory cards etc.  I've had a few cases where I was concerned after touching the printer and having the display go blank.  It would be worth verifying the sd card and trying your save locally from prusaslicer and then copying the gcode file over in the finder before you eject it.  just to be sure that the size of the file on your hdd is the same as the one you copy to the sd card.  If you're familiar with using the command line you can do an md5sum of the two files before ejecting the sd card.

Oh weird, I never thought about static. I'm not sure if it's a big problem here, I'm in Vancouver, Canada. I'll look into that though. As far as the SD card, I'll admit I have messed up quite a few times lately pulling it out from my computer too soon and it not ejecting properly. But, I've used my other SD card and the same thing happened, so thats why I thought it may be an internal issue with my Printer. I'll try your suggestion of saving the gcode to the finder.

I've been doing some digging all day and since I built it at the end of march I havn't actually done any maintenance to it besides tightening the belt. I'm going to retighten the Y-Axis I think because it doesn't sound the same as the X-Axis. It feels tight, just not as tight as the X-Axis. Also, I just realized I've never lubricated the rods... so maybe that might be the issue? I should really spend the rest of the day going through the maintenance guide for this printer before doing any more prints

once you can print again you can print a tool in Prusament PETG(must be prusament) to check the belt tension.  I've not had to adjust the belt tension on either of my printers.  Though I bought mine assembled.   I have checked rods etc and cleaned and lubricated things though.  I have to clean the fans every other week because I have cats.

I think doing the copy in finder then comparing the one on the hdd and the one on the ssd in size will be a helpful test.  you should definitely always eject via software before you yank it out though to prevent filesystem corruption.  Most removable media on your modern operating systems is flushed on write, but I don't really like to depend on that.

I have eSun PET-G, but I can easily get the Prusament. Depending on what brand of PET-G you use, does that really matter in the PrusaSlicer? I've always just used the generic PET-G setting on the prusa slicer but should I download the profile for whatever brand Im using? That might sound like a noob question lol

As far as I've been told, the gauge that tests built tension DOES need to be printed inprusament.  Someone on here actually did a test with different PETG brands and they give different results with that tool.  So you're advised for that tool to print it in Prusament PETG.
