RE: helical markings on cylinder print
Its' the seam. If you are not printing vase, every layer has a start/stop point. You're probably looking at the seam. I'd say there could be some retraction adjusted too. The seam is movable - and there is even a seam painting tool in the prusa slicer. That one is likely "nearest" for seam. There is random, nearest, rearest, etc.
RE: helical markings on cylinder print
can you post a Zipped up .3mf project file? so we can look.

I'll post this in case you don't. I'm first going to make an assumption that you imported the Cylinder as an .OBJ which tends to have very nice and evenly distributed seams in Prusa Slicer, unlike .STL, and then I'm totally going to guess that you have "External perimeters first" ticked, and that's one thing that can cause this effect. however, without a project file all I can do is look and make assumptions and guess.
Oh, and wish you luck.

Thanks for the reply. I imported the from fusion 360 as an .STL into prusa slicer and do not have 'External perimeters first' ticked either. I've printed a bunch of these to test and some are much worse than others - it's like the printer is giving me wildly different results each time, so i',m not sure what is going on. I understand it's impossible to completely get rid of it, but it should not be this bad.

@gaf
is it a cylinder or a tube?

@swiss_cheese
Apologies if this is a dumb question, but whats the difference in the context of 3D printing?
RE: helical markings on cylinder print
A cylinder is generally regarded as solid, but cylindrical with outer perimeters only, and a tube is regarded as cylindrical but hollow with inner and outer perimeter walls. the thickness of those walls can effect the outcome of the print.
good luck

Thanks for clarification.
It's a cap, so it is a tube with a wall thickness of 1.5mm.
