Having issues printing The HIVE modules

Hi,

I have a MK3S+ and haven't had any big issues since I finally figured out first layer calibration. Adhesion is great and the print quality is quite amazing. I stumbled on a weird issue that might as well be unsolvable with the model I'm trying to print (The HIVE - Modular Hex Drawers https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1743145) or at least trying to print in it's original size.

The issue is that even though the print speed is standard (oriented on print accuracy) and my layer height is lower than the suggested one, the male pins on the hex modules are kind of rounded (instead of the hexagonal shape visible in the model) and smaller than the female slots they are supposed to slide into.

So the idea that formed in my head was full of copium and I assumed that since the model size is quite small and the pins themselves are quite small it's normal for the detail around corners to be lost. I was wondering though, if maybe someone who has printed the same model in 100% size on an MK3S+ has had better success with the shape of the pins or has tried to solve this same issue without scaling up the model.

Very thankful for all possible advice.

RE: Having issues printing The HIVE modules

Did you rescale the model? Rescaling models destroys tolerances and if you have any kind of connections it usually won't work anymore without more in depth remodeling.

If you did print at 100% scale and your interfaces are too loose, you  might have to tweak your extrusion factor a bit upwards. Depending on how tight you want the connection to be. Don't overdo it, maybe do test prints with 0.01 or 0.02 stepwise increase of the extrusion factor.

Pressure advance can have an effect on corner quality, as can print temperature, cooling and speed.

Yes, printed it at 100% scale and standard settings suggested by Prusa Slicer. I've been quite happy with print quality so far, but then again I haven't printed anything with mechanical connections yet. Will definitely do smaller scale connection test prints in the future. Will try extrusion factor for the next prints. Thanks for the advice!

Just opened the model in blender to check if I can change the mechanical connection to be more circular rather than hexagonal, and turns out that my visual first impression of "hook" and "nook" matching in size was very incorrect. I think my printer did a better job than I thought because looking at the lengths and widths in the model, what happened to my prints is exactly what should happen if everything is printed exactly to the proportions that are in the model.
