[ELI5] First Layer vs Other Layers Print Bed Temperature
I am trying to get a better understanding of print bed temperature. There are 2 fields in PrusaSlicer for print bed temperature, 1) for the First Layer, and 2) for the Other Layers. Some filaments have the same temperature in both fields, while others do not (I typically see the Other Layers being 5 degrees hotter then the First Layer).
I know the heated bed helps with adhesion to the print bed and to prevent warping throughout the print.
Why would the layers beyond the first need a hotter print bed? Or why would the first layer need a cooler print bed than the remaining?
If I am getting warping mid print do I only adjust the Other Layers field, or do I need to adjust the First Layers one as well?

This promotes improved adhesion and reduces warping.

To answer this, we would need a bit more info to better answer this question. What filament are you printing with? What is the model? Are you using an enclosure if you are printing with temperature sensitive filament?
Cwbullet gave the short and sweet answer to your question about the different bed temperature. It helps with adhesion to the build plate, and depending on the filament type, some of them have a lower temperature at first so the filament does not become stuck to the point it is difficult to release (like PETG) or it is hotter for the first layer to help having it stick more to the plate (like PLA).
If you can give more info for the mid print warping, we might be able to assist.

This was a hypothetical situation, just trying to understand why there would be a difference and what to adjust when.

A minor expansion. PETG is particularly bad at sticking the hottest thing nearby. When printing the 1st layer, it can sometimes help to set the nozzle a bit cooler and the bed a bit hotter to coax the PETG to stick to the bed rather than the nozzle. Once the 1st layer is secure, you can revert to normal PETG printing temperatures. Your chosen print surface will also make a big impact on what temps work best.
