Can I use a 2.85 filament in the Prusa i3 MK3, as is?

I just noticed that I bought a 2.85 spool last Christmas.  It's too late to return it, so I'm hoping I can use it some how with my Prusa i3 MK3.  Can the MK3 take the 2.85 filament as is, provided I make the slicer changes for the measurements and temperatures?  It's only 1 spool and I don't plan to buy more of it, so not worth getting a whole new extruder, but I have other nozzles if that's all needed to be changed.  If all else fails, what do you recommend I do with the spool?

Thanks in advance for all valuable responses .

the whole extruder assembly is sized for 1.75 filament!

so probably best to forget about it...

Thanks Joan; I was afraid you were going to say that.  I had read somewhere a reference to the MK3 being usable from 1.73mm to 3mm filaments and just wanted to make sure and ask the experts before I try something that will ruin my favourite printer.

Any suggestions as to what to do with the spool in a productive way?

See if there is a maker space or hack space that can use it, or offer it on freecycle / trach nothing / gumtree / craigs list...  or ebay

I reckon it won't even fit down the PTFE liner let alone get near the hot parts. If you have a rotary tool like a dremel, you could always use that filament for friction plastic welding.
