Another thread about curling?

Total 3D printer newb here.  Have very much enjoyed building and using this printer.  Documentation has been amazing!

Have a question about curling.  Summarizing the guidance I've read from the other threads out there, I've done the following things to prevent these parts from curling when printing PLA on my textured PEI spring steel plate (please see attached picture):

  • Various heating bed temperatures (6o-85 degrees)
  • Brims, support materials, and various infill percentages (15%-30%)
  • Washing the bed with hot water and Dawn each print
  • Ensure correct live-Z height and full calibration are in order

So we're still seeing some curling/warping...what other things should I try to do?

Thanks!

Both your solutions work for me. PETG has different characteristics, and is great to work with. My best printer addition was a smooth PEI sheet, which I use exclusively for PLA (don't use with PETG if you value your sheet). And it makes the new firmware multiple sheet support really useful.

Ah, well now I noticed the documentation about the textured PEI sheet says:

Great for extensive printing of PETG, CPE, FLEX/TPU, ABS, as well as any other type of filament

While the section describing the smooth PEI sheet says:

Great for printing PLA, HIPS, PP, ASA, composite materials (metal/wood), as well as any other type of filament

....so, looks like I should a.) try some PETG filament with this sheet, and b.) buy a smooth sheet and see how that prints with the PLA.  Also very open to anything else I might be missing.

Thanks!

@robert-rmm200

Cool it's good to see confirmation about the smooth sheet + PLA.  Wasn't intuitive to me to imagine that the textured material would actually be *less* adhesive.  Looks like those are in short supply from Prusa; any pointers on where to source one from?
