ABS Prints Failing...Any Suggestions?

I am trying to print some reeds for an alto sax. I have using the reed customizer ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2006116 ) for the two on the left and a pre made one ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2478608 ) for the one on the right.

I have a pretty stock MK3 WITHOUT an enclosure, but my room temp was constant at 29C with no drafs. I used Slic3r v1.40.0 with the default settings for 0.05 layer height, Generic ABS, except for 6 parimeters and a brim. Filament is Hatchbox. I turned the speed down to 50% on the MK3.

Sorry I forgot to take a photo with them on the machine, but the thin part (right side of photo) is at the front of the printer. Some of the brims came off when I removed them from the bed, so they are not in the photos.

Any idea why I am getting the results I am? Is it because I need higher ambient temperature (an enclosure)? Does anyone know if there is a difference between turning the speed down on the printer vs turning it down in Slic3r? Any help would be appreciated.

Proud owner of a Mk3 that is producing very nice prints. There is room for improvement as I learn more about it, but so far I am very happy.

You're printing too hot and too thin for ABS. It doesn't like to be that thin. If you have to print in ABS, go with 0.15 or 0.2 layer height.
Try that first and post your results. It might be still too hot for the plastic or over extruded but this is something I can see after you've tried with 0.15 at least.

The thing has the following material comments:-

"Usually I used ABS for the reeds experiments, but I think about PLA as well since ABS is softer than cane material used for natural (vs. synthetic) reeds. PETG is also successful replacement for ABS."

From the looks of that your best bet is PLA as PETG is not so good for fine detail work due to its tendency to stringing. HIPS usually used as a support material for ABS can also be used on its own and is somewhat easier to print with if you want the similar mechanical and heat properties as ABS.

Thanks Nokolai and Martin for your ideas.

I had printed the reeds in other plastics, but was trying them in ABS to see if there was a difference in sound. The PLA and PETG turned out acceptably at .05 layer height. After following your directions I tried the ABS at 1.5 and two of the three turned out well enough for me to forward them on to the sax player for testing. I think the very gradual slope in the reed makes that layer height too big, but we will have to see what he says. Photos below.

Thanks again for the recommendations.
