Z Calibration Failure
Hey Guys,
Currently having issues with a MK3 not completing the Z calibration, moves to the top of the axis and makes noise. Then after going through the prompts it drops down 1-2mm then throws the "Calibration failed! Check the axes and run again"
Has been printing fine up until now, have tried a firmware update and factory reset to no avail. Manually moving the axis feels smooth and not overly tight

Usually something is limiting range of motion. Extruder bumping into a cute spool holder, or other added 'thing' on the top rail. Jam nuts on lead screws too tight, cables dangling and snagging as the axes move about, etc.
Oh, and if you've modified anything like Volcano, changed nozzles to something other than a stock E3S V6 model, etc.

Nothing has been changed on the printer but can't see or hear any obstructions as it moves. If I manually move the axis it moves fine (other than the Z ref being wrong). Have loosened the trapezoidal nuts to the point where they can rotate.

Have you done the XYZ cal?
And not the T-nuts - they need to be solidly attached; I mean the jam nuts (dust covers as Prusa calls them), they must be loose and well off the Z motors.
pps: and in all cases, photos are worth their weight when trying to diagnose this stuff. A snap of the top brackets, the X brackets, the motors, etc. And then a shot of the entire printer helps, too. Often there are things folk thing are fine but aren't.

Thanks Tim, but I think it's a broken wire in the PINDA probe cable, just noticed the lack of red light (which comes back if I move the cable bundle) which would explain why the unit thinks its at the bottom while it's at the top.
