XYZ calibration failed. Bed calibration point was not found

Prints were not sticking to the bed after several days of non-stop printing.  My first thought was that a poor filament being used.  After cleaning up the blob on the nozzle and heater block I tried a known good filament and had the same issue.  This time while trying to clean up the heater block (I disassembled and removed the block) I broke a wire from the heater cartridge.  I purchased a new heater cartridge, heater block, nozzle, and heat sink from E3d and turned on the printer.  I was able to print a Benchy, but then the filament began to stick to the nozzle again.  I cleaned everything, tried again with the same results.  After cleaning everything up again I turned off the machine and went to sleep.  The next morning when I powered up, the new machine message came up telling me to calibrate the machine.  Ugh!  Autohome worked, the Self Test worked, and Calibrate Z worked fine.  However, when I tried to do the XYZ calibration the 1st point could not be found.  The head circled around the target circle, the red light on the PINDA blinked and flickered, then it began a side to side sweep.  When the PINDA crossed the circle it blinked and vibrated as it always does, but after passing completely over, stopped and said "Bed calibration point was not found."

I've searched through the knowledge base and tried every suggestion I could find, but nothing seems to help.  I am at a loss and am becoming very frustrated.  I would appreciate any help or guidance anyone might provide.

Not sure if it's going to help you or not,

Remove the extrusion portion of your story, and I had a very similar story. Turned printer on one day to start printing, same problem, about 2 weeks ago, I re-adjusted my pinda sensor, and then I was able to get the calibration to work again.

Fast forward to two ago, my pinda sensor went out. To me, it sounds like the sensor is about to go out.

@mchughst

Thank you.  I spent about an hour on the live chat app with someone from Prusa and we decided the same thing you decided.  The PINDA is defective.  Since the machine is only 2 months old they are sending it as a warranty issue.  I hope you are able to get yours repaired soon, and I hope the PINDA fixes mine!  Thanks again,

Rick

Hopefully it will, I decided to play things safe, and I ordered three, so I have spares.

I hope it fixes both our problems.

Hi Rick,

I had a similar issue with the xyz calibration after assembly. All calibrations worked fine besides this one. I still havent found any solution to this issue and troubleshooted many times with Prusa. They will also sent me a new PINDA but I am sceptic that it will help. For me the PINDA seems to work just fine and I am even able to print good quality without the xyz calibration (Prusa told me it was okay to do this).

Did the new PINDA work for you?

I haven't received the new Pinda yet.  It should arrive on Thursday.  I'll post an update on Friday, whether or not it works.

I received the replacement Pinda today and the XYZ calibration worked perfectly.

I hope it works for you.  I'm having trouble with my layer thickness now, so I'm not out of the woods yet.

@rick-f2

That's too bad. Could you keep us up to date?

I think I've figured it out.  I put a new hardened steel nozzle in place of the brass one, and once I increased the heat by 20 degrees C it worked fine.  After that, adjusting the first layer thickness was a piece of cake.

@rick-f2

Replacing the PINDA seemed to fix my issue as well!
